It was messy for Smarty Jones with a very threatening storm lurking, and that Derby was nonetheless entertaining.

The forecast for Friday is scattered rain as well. The track crew can cope pretty well with adversity but it could be a very wet Derby.

I was there for Smarty's Derby. It was a beautiful sunny day and the track was pretty good. We watched the big black cloud approcach from the west and pour water. I've never seen the track as bad for another Dery as that day. People kept saying the sludge aided SJ - I tell ya, had the track been dry that colt would have had 4-5 more lengths between him and second. (My first Derby was won be Decidedly - I was a mere child :D )

That would be funny...at least it'll give the track crew an excuse to seal it and have the horses put up some fast numbers....
