I will be busy playing online poker!
Screw the horse racing industry.Self destructive,
inconsiderate and totally disfuntional.
I am not even into the Derby mood.
I may just do something else on the 1st
Saturday in May.
What a shame.

Security Risks Abound

All this convenience comes at a price. Unfortunately, there are real risks to playing poker online. The casino may be a fraud, existing only to take money from naïve players without ever intending to pay back winnings. The server running the online casino could be cracked by a malicious attacker looking for credit card numbers, or trying to leverage some advantage in the game.

So, how are you doing at online poker? I happen to be much better playing poker online than picking horses. I'm not great at online poker either, but it does help having some sort of control of the outcome.

Poker is getting tough to beat, too. I was one of many who did well at online poker from 2002 until they snuck the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act into the SAFE Port Act in October of 2006. At that point, online poker got much tougher, since most of the "fish" American money was scared away. Even live (brick-and-mortar, in-cardroom) games are getting tougher now. When (not "if") the U.S. and/or individual states legalize online poker again (which will happen eventually, and of course the government will get its cut of the revenue), I'll be one of the first to play again.

I love playing large multy table tourneys.
There are many free rolls offered by all sites.
If you don't feel like investing alot of money
you can improve your skills in these.
Most sites are offering entry to WSOP now.
I will probably put some money in the account
and play Derby Day, unless of course i qualify for
a WSOP final. I almost got their last weekend.
WEG struggling along at 2-2.5 mil a day on
weekends now. No one has called me to see
how they can get my business back. Poor business
practice. I am not a huge player but 20% of 500k
is money, money that they aren't getting anymore.
Yes Mr. Mitchell i know my account didn't show all
that level of action, but the proof is in the #'s.
I am voting with my dollars.

I tried to learn Hold 'em at some of the free sites, but found them to be ineffective. It takes only one guy to bet every card ... and then simply replenish his free stake ... to get any sense of real-money strategy.

Can anyone recommend a site that has developed a way of overcoming this problem? Thank you.

Kelso, you found the problem with free poker. Why not go all in when you can reload every other hand. My advice would be to put a little bit of real money in there and start with low stakes, like $5.00 +.50 buy in. There are many, many people that make a living playing online poker. It's not easy, but the fundamentals are very easy. It's not hard to play even money online. My buddy has played for 4 years online for a living and lives in a $million house. He is one of the top players on the second most popular site. I play every night but dang, I love betting on horses too!

Kelso, and you give me horse racing tips and I can give you poker tips. My buddy wrote some "rules" that I live by. I can give them to you.
You may wonder why I can't make a living at poker? I play one $5 game at a time and my buddy plays 12 $100 games at a time. My mind just doesn't work like his works.........

Not that I mind knocking three times to play, but where does one find the door?

I hope I'm wrong about the law on this. The reason I want to learn online is because I think Americans are allowed to play for real money only at a table. Yes/No?

Thanks very much for the suggestion.

However, I have only one horse racing tip to offer in return ... and I'll share it with ya right here, gratis:
Toss whatever horse Kelso says he's gonna bet.
It's a stronger strategy even than learnin' for them what knows.

Ya see, Kelso doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground about picking winners. He can count his profitable days at the track on one hand ... with enough fingers left over to pinch the waitress and one more to keep her interested.

Seriously, if I had anything to offer here I'd be more than happy to trade tips. Absent that, let me know if your buddy ever makes it to a televised game. I'll be sure to tune in to cheer him on.

poker stars makes tables available with table stakes of the micro wager variety. so did party poker, and most of the major sites, actually.

myself, i played limit exclusively (until it was banned), which is another ball game, strategically, but every site offered .5-1, and some much less.

Well, playing poker online in the US is kinda illegal. I don't think they are going to knock on your door and arrest you. They have made it illegal for banks and financial institutions to do business with online poker sites which are all based offshore. That just makes it a little troublesome to fund your online poker account. I had trouble using my checking account info to fund my account, butI used my ATM card which drew from the same account with no problem.

Online poker is only illegal in some states. Stick with the sites that have the most players poker stars, Full tilt, Titan, etc...There might be some laws in place in the future to deem poker as a game of skill and having it fully legalized.
