Louisville Courier-Journal ...

None of tomorrow’s opening day races at Churchill Downs will be available for wagering on the Louisville-based company’s TwinSpires.com.

Churchill Downs – through its marketing agent -- and the Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Group are locked in a multi-state dispute over revenues from account wagering – the fastest growing segment of the stagnant pari-mutuel wagering market.

The bulk of the Churchill spring meeting won’t be available on the racetrack company’s TwinSpires account-wagering system or others unless an agreement is reached with horsemen.

The racetrack says horsemen have already have consented to the Kentucky Derby, Oaks and Woodford Reserve Turf Classic being available to account wagering companies – but not other races on those days.

The horsemen also consented to today’s Derby Trial, but Kevin Flanery, a Churchill Downs vice president, said TwinSpires.com would not take betting on the race because of the short notice and the confusion it could create for customers.
