Race 1

Peace Accord (4) faces slightly softer here, has been working well, and along with the positive jock switch to Bejarano, there is reason to believe he might get it done here. Si Se Puede (5) is drawn just outside my top pick, closed nicely in his last, but might find himself with a little too much to do late. Cactus Lighting (1) also will be coming late, but the rail draw and lack of activity since his last race are a concern.

Race 2

Not much to choose from here. Maggie Lane (7) jogged along the rail in her 7 furlong comebacker after not being seen for over a year. She has worked a couple of times since, and why not? Both favorites have some knocks against them. Foregiveandforget (6) ran the best race of her life in her last, setting moderate fractions before tiring in the lane. Why should today be any different? California Demon (2) has been off since Fairplex, and would have to pick up right where she left off to contend, much less win this.

Race 3

This is an interesting race! Back class. Long layoffs. Dubai shippers. Grade 1 winners. Bullet works. Magnum (3) certainly needed his last, but wasn’t totally embarrassed as he was prominent early in a quickly run stakes. Let’s see if he moves forward off of that. Mast Track (4) switches jocks back to Bejarano, who has previously ridden him to two victories. He showed some fight in his last, and is also capable of improvement. From there we get into extended layoff country, and its pretty much anyone’s guess. Brother Derek (5) is the 6/5 favorite, despite the fact that trainer Dan Hendricks is 0 for his last 49 coming off an extended vacation. Bet against. Dixie Miester (2) is the second favorite, and will have to overcome both the Dubai curse and a one year leave of absence. Guess that leaves me with Nice Bet (1) who draws the nice rail, has won or placed in several Group 2 events, and just fired a bullet in his last work.

Race 4

I don’t like the inside posts going down the hill, but I think KrugerPark (2) will be able to overcome that hurdle here. I think he’ll show the most potent kick down the lane. There is also a lot to like on the rail horse Mind The Minister (1). Finishing first or second in 6 of his last 7, he is an almost certainty to fire his best shot, with good downhill jock Tyler Baze aboard. Trainer Mullins adds to the appeal. Billy Allen (7) who owns more wins than the rest of the field combined, and Ten Downing Street (6) who does well at this trip, round out the contention.

What's up, Burls?

Not me.

Had myself gelded on Friday, and can still barely walk.

Never could figure out how horses could come back and run,
much less win, after they had their equipment changed.

I agree with you on this one. Bet against the 5.

Burls

What's up, Burls?

Not too much.
I just went in the black for today thanks to a $47.50 exacta at KEE R7 thanks to the Premier Turf Club tip sheet.
Have you guys checked those out?

I also agree that this is just a prep workout for the 5.
One thing I can't understand is how a horse that has two G1 wins and two G2 wins can possibly satisfy the allowance conditions.

SRK
04-20-2008, 04:41 PM
Well we had it right on Brother Derek.

He made the conditions by not having won $40,000 at a mile or over since June 1, in fact Brother Derek hasn't won since the '06 Santa Anita Derby.

Can't say I am familiar with the Premier Turf Club sheet - but apparently its doing well for you. That's great.

Race 5

Samantha’s Rule (4) drops into Maiden claimers, switches back to the AW, puts on the blinks, is second off the layoff, and changes jocks to Michael Baze (from Garrett Gomez). That might just add up to a victory. Pure Refinement (2) also drops in class, and changes jock and surface. Certainly one of the two has found the right formula??? Excessive Fun (8) closed well in her debut, and with a better start and a little better racing luck in her second try, deserves a look. Finally, King City Kitty (1) got a poor draw, but otherwise has the look of a horse that should do better this time out.

Very tough race to handicap. Full field of uninspiring former maidens, most of whom are trying this tricky trip for the first time. Proceed with caution. I don’t usually endorse Turf Paradise shippers, but in this case – why not? Vegas Runner (3) has proven herself over the grass and at this distance. I’ll give her the weakest of nods in this head scratcher. Kilmartin Hall (11) has caught my eye before, is bred for the turf, and is realistically placed here. Starstruck Kristen (4) was wide throughout in her debut, where she closed nicely to get up a head at the wire. Not sure about her connections or turf breeding, but is worth taking a flyer on in her second lifetime effort. Both Curvey Star (9) and No Cream Or Sugar (5) exit the same heat, which was run down the hill in decidedly mediocre fashion. I’ll keep my wallet in my pocket and just watch this one.

The #1 Rapid Goose deserves a look. He was claimed, and then re-claimed back by his original owners. With so many horses available at the 25C level, they must have thought something special of this one to go right back and re-claim it. Gets Bejarano aboard, but does draw the inside post on this downhill turf event. Not saying the horse is going to run great, just think it's an interesting angle for such a weak group of horses. Atleast worth it to throw in the gimmicks.

Granted that means low percentage, but you don't need to hit to mnay like that to make up for the large number of misses. It pays off the long haul.
