This is a difficult one as I did not know this one was even there. We just "discovered it" one day while walking. It is huge, near a seaport, and has a larger flat course outside a steeplechase course. This first is a Google Earth shot.

Here is a ground view near the grandstands.

Very small grandstands for the size of the course. They run weekends all year round (in Winter they have a completely enclosed track!!).

Blue Bonnet Downs. :p
I remember when I was in my early teens talking to an ex jockey (no names) who openly told my how easy it was to stiff a horse at Blue Bonnets. Just take them wide in the first turn.

Never forgot that one.

Actually it was my late teens that I was told that one.

I said at the outset it would be a very tough one. You have to go much much further EAST on the mainland.

I did go by the Curragh on the way to Cork on the train. An amazing course just out on the rolling hills.

The name outside the course. One of only three major t-bred courses in Poland this was in the port city of Sopot, near Gdansk.

I enjoyed the Irish Derby very much. I had pretty much the best seats in the house. The only annoying part was the loud choppers coming and going throughout the day.

In the fabled Temple Bar in Dublin, they love their horses as this shot of Northern Dancer can attest.

I've been to Gdansk, but had no idea there was a race track there!

As for the Curragh, here was the winner, Soldier of Fortune, being led to the post. This is about the time my daughter told me he would win.

And here he is destroying the field:

Now there I have been, though some of it is a bit foggy.

Cool! I've been studying my Polish ancestry lately, so that is very interesting to me, thanks for putting up the pix!
