After 18 years as head of CRC Ken Dunn has been fired. Churchill Downs doesn't believe he has enough experience to run a Racino. There is a new world out there.

18 years is only about 36 times the average stay of a Magna employee.

Meanwhile, I don't see CDI honcho Bob Evans changing the world...Fair Grounds business down, CD business hasn't grown. Breeders' Cup tells Evans "see you in a few years" after his take it or leave it ultimatums.

All Dunn did was run a good, solid operation at Calder, with little help from the parent company.

I know, somehow, this is a compliment. ......I reckon......sorta.

I don't think there is or ever was a question about Ken Dunn being a gentleman. The problem as I see it is that the 3 tracks in Broward County offering Casino's are on the eastside and have been battleing the Indians since day one. CRC will be drawing from an entirely different population. Since the introduction of GP and other simulcasting last Jan. I have been told that the crowd is large during the week and very crowded on weekends. I am going to assume with the coming of "slots" and poker very shortly puts CD in a very good position and Ken Dunn is just not qualified to oversee a Casino type operation.

Ken Dunn was and is the heartbeat of Calder,NOBODY rallied harder for the slots. then Mr Dunn,Im also under the impression that there is more to the story then anybody is being told. Geeze if CDI didnt think he was qualified then why not hire him someone who could help with the casino.Mr Dunn was always the first guy to pat you on the back if you won a race and were walking back from the paddock back to the racing office. Calder is one of the most management friendly to the horseman that I have ever been around.I think its very unfair to Mr Dunn considering all he has done for Calder. He will be missed thats for sure,The biggest thing I will miss is how he would walk the backside and chat with you asking if anything could be done to make things better.I wish him the best of luck.

The problem with Casino's at the other 3 tracks is they have horse/dog people running the Casino's. While the Indians went out and hired the best Casino people money could buy. CDI has visions from what has happened the past 3 months at CRC as being a Casino/simulcasting plant first and a horse track second. Do you really belive that the other Racino's throughout the country don't have the same thoughts. Look at the population north, south, east and west of CRC, are they going to play the horses or punch the slot machines ? It's a new world for you and I Tom.
