My question is this: How do you psychologically handle the multiple losses of EXTREMELY tight photo finishes in succession?

This week, I have lost 5 photos, to the tune of $34,500! :(

Apologies for venting in this forum, but the options of pulling out my hair, or jumping from the balcony seem a little severe. This is the worst run of bad luck I can remember having, as 4 of the 5 were leading and lost the head-bob.

Any wisdom you can share? :bang:

...this is verrrry hard to do; let go as it's happening, watch while diminishing your involvement as its happening, and after ask yourself why you didnt have the winner, or if there was something you could have done to gain from the race. Examine yourself and your desicions .......and if you can do all this ,Grasshopper, you will then go to the next level

Let me begin with the traditional response: "They will all balance out eventuallly.":liar:
Of course, that's hogwash. Or if it's true, You & I are about to go on the streak of a LIFETIME!
I'm reluctant to say this, because this race may be the photo that caused you to post this thread..
But I actually WON two photos today..in the SAME Race! The 5th@AQU:, I keyed #1,Worth A Shot third in a dime super, with the #4-5-6 second & fourth, & SCHRUPP Button on top. Thought the #4 nosed the #8 for the win, & then I thought Branch fell asleep on Shot & let the #5 Nose him for third! Went in the kitchen, prepped my short ribs thinking I lost...& Viola!,+$100 for the dime! TVG Wager history below: I'm NO REDBOARDER!

But I actually WON two photos today..in the SAME Race! The 5th@AQUDamn it!

I had VALDIMIRA twice in the Pik3 on tickets of $2 and $8 that would have paid a combined $598. I also had her on a $24 Pik4 ticket that would have paid $2,033!

This was the race that prompted the post, but it wasn't the most heartbreaking loss of the lot, as that spot was reserved by Hemet in the nightcap at Santa Anita for 25k in the Pik6.

Maybe Hollywood Park will be my salvation. I will persevere... but it is easier to do with some tools.

I remember that day (Hemut) for my own reasons.

Remember, you dont lose what you dont have
in perspective, you only lost the 2 dollars wagered...your handicapping took you all the way to the last race in the pk 6,4,3, tweak what you must, its now a matter of time.

this is a good game.

If it's bugging you...take a week or two off. If you start to chase the money you "shoulda coulda" won, you'll get buried.

Read a novel.

Take your wife or girlfriend or both to the movies.

Plant some flowers.

Just don't print the pps or buy a Form.

You will return fresh and a winner.

My sentiments exactly!

The handicapping is spot on, it is just the luck that is a little off.

The game is cyclical. Ebb, Ebb, Ebb, Ebb, Ebb....... and FFFFFLLLLLOOOOOWWW

Consider a baseball player...A Rod (well I live in NY...home of the Super Bowl Giants... thinking about 18-1)

A. Rod 2007
G - AB- -R--- H- -2b- 3b- HR- RBI- -TB-- BB- SO-- SB- CS--OBP- -SLG- -avg
58-583-143- 183 -31- 0- -54- 156- 376- -95- 120- 24 --4.- 422.- .645- .314
Handicappers are like baseball players, in that high averages may not be synonymous with productivity. A. Rod was a less than 10% HR hitter and considered dangerous, likewise we as handicappers are not going to knock'em out of the park all day everyday. The key is to become proficient at getting on base then wait for the the home run opportunities, which may, in reality, be far and few between. As long as you’re on base, you’re in the game. Be thankful... you're in the game.
:D
luck is when opportunity meets preparation...make some

These tough beats could NOT have occurred without great handicapping to begin with.carry on carry on,what cannot be cured must be endured.

I watched Aqueduct today on TVG and online. I was stunned by this call. I thought Valdimira had it on the nose. I don't recall a photo finish I've seen as CLOSE in some time. A dead heat decision would've been more acceptable.

Regarding your lament, a simple note.

This too shall pass.

That's why I always play one or two horses (depending on the odds of my key horse) in exacta boxes, this way when I lose the photo, I can still win if I have the exacta. If you're betting a longshot, this is a no brainer because they often lose photos.
