After having several days to digest the trip last week,I have a few comments to air out.Racing is on its way out by the looks of the sports books I visited.Small, noisy and in areas of the casino that gets a draft.I can't handicap if I'm freezing to death(stratosphere and excaliber).Or going deaf(new york).Or have to pull a 2nd morgage to buy lunch at the deli.AND IF YOU HAVE A CONTEST,LET US KNOW WHAT DAY IT HAPPENS ON THE RULES SHEET.OH and could you possibly make the tellers more incompetent and rude? After all I"m here for a short time I want the full effect to remember you by.Not in any hurry to go back, needless to say.

I don't think it's much of a money maker out there compared to slots and other games. They seem to treat it as more of a courtesy than anything.

Other than the free drinks and form, I'd rather hang out at HOU ... better track coverage and lots more terminals/tellers.

Bill

BTW ... this is my fear of the ultimate outcome of the racinos, racing is a secondary income/cash sink enterprise.

Curious. None of the books that you mention were suggested to you as "horse-player friendly" on the posts that were in response for info on same. Why didn't you check out some of the places suggested?

Stupidity. And lack of time. For some reason,my handicapping clock is not geared to west coast time,so early post times caught me off guard.I was trying to take in all of Vegas in a short amount of time,so I ended up playing tracks when it was more conveniet,so instead of leaving the strip,I just stayed at the casino I was in at the time.Usually.Some books were so uncomfortable (Luxor,MGM)I went next door to the next casino.Next time ,whenever that might be,I will be more focused on those that are bettor friendly.

Bill W,there were no free forms, unless half the programs were over.So my local OTBs are just as good if not better.

The Mirage is a favorite. If you are in by 10am you can usually get a good seat.

BTW, hello!

Welcome....I didn't even stop at the Mirage.Last time I was there (10yrs ago)I saw the dolphin tank, and it struck me as a cruel thing to do to an animal that usually has miles to roam,so I didn't go by this time.

I'll have to schedule a trip just to get up to date I guess. Last time out they required the cover price for a deposit. You could either keep the form or turn it back in for the deposit.

Mirage was one of the best books my last trip out (5 yrs. ago) Didn't see the dolphins ... yep that sucks.

Welcome aboard, Jed.

Super, hope your trip turned out well otherwise,

Bill

I always liked the Mirage when I went there years ago.

Do you know if laptops are allowed there?

Sadly, not many free forms in Vegas anymore. Last few yrs I just confine myself to Jerry's Nugget in N. LV. It's walking distance of the house and they're pretty friendly. I take my laptop but there are no plugins.
They still have free forms with a deposit of a $1 and you get the $1 back. If you want forms night before they're available at Cashier's cage for deposit of $3 and you can get that back next day.
Hey, who needs the Strip? Haven't been there in yrs.

Just returned from the Gold Coast Casino, showed them my Gold Coast Turf Club Card and got free forms (east, west, midwest editions) each day without a deposit.
