It is an excellent movie. Lots of action and very few real inaccuracies. A few, but still great action.

Thanks for the info. I love gambling movies. The best, California Split with Elliot Gould and George Segal. The worst, Fever Pitch with Ryan O'Neal.

I wouldn't be in horse racing if I could count and not look like I was doing so. :)
Sigh.

Russ,
One of the old jokes in the gaming industry is that many floormen cannot count to 21 with their pants on.

The guys upstairs sure can though. It is amazing that the industry has convinced many that counting is illeagal. Unreal.

Russ,
Back in the '70s I was dealing at Harold's Club in Reno. Sweet little job... $75k and fun as well.
Anyway, working at Harold's was a lot like a big family. I worked graveyard then and about once a week during the summer the dealers would picnic together. At one of these picnics, one of the "eye-in-the-sky" guys showed up.
So, here are all these dealers hanging around... and the "enemy" shows up.
LOL - Turns out he just wanted to "feel the love" like the rest of us. So, after the picnic was over we handed him a bag full of money and sent him on his way. After that he came to all of our picnics and life was much easier on graveyard.

Dave,
Man, I have two friends that still have that job at different casinos and love it. They talk about family and such just like you did. I would have loved to have truley understood that lifestyle as I believe it was as American as apple pie.
I would love to tell the whole story about my first time in Vegas but it would take to long. Short form. I got stuck there while a private in the army driving a Col who loved the place but sure didn't care for privates. This was the 60s when the whole country hated us. I had almost no money and was stuck in uniform. Best weekend of my life. Dealers and pit bosses kept giving me vouchers. I saw great shows and ate incredible food. On the way back to White Sands the Col kept whining about how he and girlfriend kept fighting the whole weekend. I kept driving and smiling.
Most of the whole country hated us and the workers in Vegas made me proud to defend it. I understand that you might not understand.

That's a great one. My favourite is "The Gambler" with James Caan. It shows the ups and downs really well - ok basically downs. But my fav. scene is when he is playing blackjack and has a hard 18 and asks for another card - he knows it's a 3. I've had that feeling a few times (too few) in 35+ years at the races - I know what is going to happen. Hasn't happened in years!

Dave,
I read the book that the movie is based on and enjoyed it. I was amazed at what the casinos could get away with. If anyone knows blackjack, its you, so I'll add the movie to my "must see" list.

A lot of people are crying "racism" because the movie has white guys playing parts that were real life Asians.
Why can't people just enjoy a good story? I didn't mind the old cowboy pictures where white guys played Indian parts. I guess I'm too white though!
Does anyone get mad at religious movies? Jesus is always white with flowing long hair and speaks with a British accent! :D It just wouldn't sound right if Jesus spoke like Larry the Cable Guy! ......"git her done!"

On the topic of Jesus in the movies... I recall reading something years ago that any actor who played Jesus saw an abrupt end to his career.
So, where is Jim Caviezel now?

As usual, the flick is a far cry from the pulp.
Initial team was constructed prior to this band and went belly up from an excessive amount of fingers in the pie: (I hate when that happens)

In terms of this game: I've tried in vain to assemble several teams, ala Alan Woods. It hasen't taken yet. With some tinkering, it just might.

I do not remember them playing Jesus, although one was the voice of God as I recall.

IIRC, Chapmans character, Brian, was getting signs that he thought he was the messiah. Lots of humorous paralells, but Brian just wasn't the one, but met a similar earthly demise. Funny song, was just joking and singing & whistling parts of it with my family online last night.

Yes, Chapman played the part of Brian Cohen, the mistaken (and unwilling) messiah.

For those interested in viewing this entire program via YouTube, which aired on The Discovery Channel, it is in 19 segments, this was the first. You can do a search on "MIT's Breaking Vegas", a few other things come up, but I'm up to watching #7 right now, hopefully all 19 are findable. I'm finding it interesting-got me watching this instead of the Cubs Opener.
