I'll have the pleasure of living and working in Poughkeepsie, NY for the next 6 weeks. Then I have 2 weeks vacation to spend in the USA. I've already been to NYC, Atlantic City, Las Vegas (incl. Grand Canyon), Seattle and Philadelphia.

I'm looking for nice weather, nice scenery and a good time. Where should I go?

Fly to San Francisco. Spend a couple days there. Rent a car and drive the Pacific Coast Hwy south to San Diego. Stop when you see or here of something nice. Scenery is spectacular. Fly home.

Or visit Key West, Florida and go fishing and eat key lime pie while sitting on the beach listening to Jimmy Buffet.

You could go to Clearwater beach. Only 30-40 minutes from Tampa Bay downs. Bet TB or simulacast. At night you go out on the gambling boat. Play a little blackjack and craps.

If I had two weeks to knock around, I'd do Sedona --> Zion NP --> Bryce Canyon --> Arches NP

How about Lexington, Kentucky?

Before you leave Poughkeepsie, if you like fine dining, get a reservation at one of the restaurants at the Culinary Institute. The American and Italian were excellent when I was there a few years back. You will never get finer service anywhere you go as you servers are the people who are there studying to be chefs and restauranteurs and their grades depend on it! Professional chefs work the kitchens and the food they prepare is outstanding

As someone who was born and raised in the Kingston area (roughly half an hour north of Poughkeepsie), I can give you one valuable piece of advice on living there.

Don't.

Seriously, though, the Culinary is great. Also, Connecticut's right next door, so if you don't want to fly to gamble, maybe trips to Mohegan Sun and/or Foxwoods are in order.

Boston's Beautiful in Mid-May.
Drive the scenic coastline in the morning,
Visit Suffolk Downs in the afternoon,
catch The Red Sox in the evening.
The only thing missing is Casinos!

Personally, my choice would be Dublin.

You ever pick your feet in Poughkeepsie? ...and now I get the reference. Fair play!

You'll always find some craic in San Francisco, so if you haven't seen the Bay Area, that would be the first place I would check out. Napa, Sonoma, & Big Sur won't disappoint.

Up the Rebels!
