"CASINO CULTURE CLASH"- Demasi Sings it Again!
Mass. House speaker Sal DeMasi (surprise, surprise) has spoken! Actually, it was one of Sal's standard "Evils of Gambling" missives that he has used to squelch any serious talk about gaming in Massachusetts. Sal actually wrote the following; ""Do we want to usher in Casino Culture- with rampant bankruptcies, crime & social ills- or do we want to create a better Massachusetts for ALL sectors of the society?" Sorry, Sal, that ship has sailed!
Home Foreclosures have ruined the housing market- people are swinging machetes on City Hall (Herald,page 4,3/14/08)- Yet video gaming in Massachusetts will make things WORSE?
Sal's lieutenant, Dan Bosley, already used "the check got lost in the mail" excuse when it was suggested we try out gaming in the state by adding slots at the state's four racetracks; one of Dan's aides "accidentally" put the bill in the wrong pile, preventing it from being considered in the upcoming gaming "Debate". It's very sad when two misguided souls have so much control over an issue as important as this one!
I wrote a blog on "myspace" about the gaming scandal in the state house when Deval Patrick first took over the state last year. Read on:

" Mr. Morality, Sal DeMasi, strikes again!" Deval Patrick has shown his hand in the game of "Texas Hold-Em" with House Speaker Sal DeMasi over Casinos in Massachusetts. Now DeMasi begins throwing Jokers into the game, having his henchman Rep.Dan (Happy Days)Bosley start the bogus claims of DOOM if Massachusetts accepts GAMBLING in the state! This "same old song & dance" DeMasi spouts over gaming in the state every time a proposal reaches the statehouse is B.S.! EVENTUALLY State Representatives MUST come out from under his thumb & DO THE RIGHT THING! Let 2007 Be the Year of the Slot!
Better Yet, lets have a two-year trial on Video Gaming. Install 2,000 slots each at Suffolk Downs, Wonderland, Raynham, & Plainridge Race Course and see if the world ends in Massachusetts. I'm betting it won't; it'll provide Millions in tax dollars; save existing jobs (& add LOTS of new ones)at the state's 4 tracks; & give a much needed boost to the Mass. Thoroughbred Breeder's Association, adding jobs at farms around the state!

Sal DeMasi has "stacked the deck" once again in squelching Casino's in Mass.

My NEW favorite "Fear-Monger" Quote from Sal;
"Casinos will absolutely cause human damage on a grand scale."
"We (Boston?Massachusetts?) are the ATHENS of AMERICA. Do WE REALLY want this? Do We need this casino culture?"
Sal has also enlisted state Rep. Jeffrey Sanchez(D-Boston) to spew such absurd quotes as, ..the impact of Casinos on Compulsive Gamblers would be like
"..giving a syringe full of heroin to an addict!":lol: :lol: :lol:
It's funny, because the State is surviving thanks to the "METHADONE" known as THE MASS. STATE LOTTERY! Keno every 4 minutes? Check! $20 Scratch tickets? Check! Simulated Video Horse Racing Game in Bars? Check! Oh, YEAH, Casinos would definitely cause the fall of civilization!

Rookie Republican State Rep. Richard Ross was instrumental in defeating the bill.According to The Boston Herald,;
Before Ross switched sides, the committee vote was 9 to 9, with one abstention, so his vote was decisive in changing the outcome of the critical tally, lawamkers said.
“Ross is a Republican,” DiMasi said, intimating that he'd have little to offer to a member of the opposite party. “I’m sure he made his decision based on the best interests of his district. (I made) no deals, no bargains. Nothing.”
DiMasi met with Ross late Tuesday to persuade him to change his vote, and sources said the speaker continued to work on Ross and other members yesterday afternoon.
