Don't count on this much money being in the pool. It is more than likely it was a $20,000 Super and there was one 10 cent winner.

And NJ's point ws made nicely here. If the total pool was only $27k and the payout was $427k, this was either the biggest minus pool in history or the track owners have become very philanthropic.

Let's try not to make this into a pissing match.

Back on topic, why did the exacta only pay $263?

I was at TP yesterday for this race (and bet the 86-1 third place finisher, but not to show :( ) . Two notes:

1. In the last odds change, the #1 went from 4/5 to a silly 2/5. I say silly because he was dropping from 15k maiden claimers to 5k after having been claimed for more $. Why would anyone take a 2/5 shot at Turfway's lowest level with question marks like that? He finished 8th.

2, The exacta combining the 21-1 winner with the 47-1 place horse paid a whopping $266. That could be the worst underlay payoff I have ever seen in person. (edit -someone else saw that, too!)

Usually they take the amount of the pool, subtract the take and divide by the number of winning tickets. Hope this helps.

Simply put, one lucky ticket holder had a dime bet and collected $21,352.60 for it.

This kind of payoff happens often during the year as the tracks struggle to post prices in a uniformed manner.

Why the exacta was EXTREMELY SHORT is probably a good topic for a thread not titled WHOPPER payoff, as it was the exact opposite.

Dave's joke was very simple and funny. Tracks are not in the business of being Philanthropic.

Philanthropy is the act of donating (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donation) money, goods, time, or effort to support a charitable cause

It appears that one lucky patron took entire superfecta pool for one single, solitary dime bet! Now, that's a score!

Small exacta with firster... does stable have reputation for betting its runners? Just one man's theory. :bang: Again, doing back-of-the-envelope calculation something like 155 winning $2 tickets would exist (I am assumed 25% takeout for this rough calculation). Bettors stayed out of win pool and focused on exacta.

Other theories?

I was flipping through the channels tonight and stopped on a Turfway race. I saw a 6 year old maiden win in his first start by ten lengths............ I think he was 26-1 ?

I suspect the trainer cashed huge...............
