Yesterday at Sunland Park, Fearless Anthony set his second track record in as many starts. How rare is that feat?

Interesting question...I suppose the best answer would first scrutinize the conditions.

Extreme example

If Secretariat ran at Sunland he would too break the track record back- to- back, belly- to- belly... When the BC races parked its show at Lone Star records fell left and right.

Only three track records were set during the BC weekend at Lone Star Park.

The track record holder, Fearless Anthony, is a 7 year old gelding who used to be an $8,000 claimer.

Of course, Secretariat set 3 track records in 3 starts - the Triple Crown.

Chris Hartman definitely has his horse in top condition, that was an impressive class jump win to back it up. You can tell him congrats for me and that some good handicappers have made note of his antics. Thanks Stu, nice story.

How does one compare Secretariat to Fearless Anthony?

And Ghostzapper 1:59 would have snapped some records at many tracks, not just Lone Star.

If anything mabye one should look to see if there was a bias at Sunland. Sometimes these things happen.

how could this be as rare as a triple dead heat? We have had one triple dead heat in North America if I am not mistaken..

I know of at least six:

1944 Carter Handicap
1963 August 10 Arlignton Park
1981 December 31 Suffolk Downs
1990 May 20 Arlington Park
1991 October 7th Last at Belmont
1997 December Hollywood Park (I was there -- same day as the walkover)

Sure, Secretariat or GZ would certainly break the track record. But that is not to say they would run even faster the next time over the track.

Stu: First of all, is Chris mailing you a check for starting this thread?;) But seriously, the horse certainly isn't an 8K claimer anymore...on the Dead heat side, I saw the triple dead heat and walkover you're referring to at Hollywood Park from the announcer booth in Albuquerque...(that must have been the year that we ran in blizzards all the way up to 4 days before Christmas) Thankfully management only tried that experiment once:bang: But I do know that you're missing at least one triple dead heat from your solid list as I vividly remember one at The Lincoln State Fair races many years ago (probably back in the 80's, and I also remember that Dean Williams was the track announcer at the time when it occurred)

It's looks like FEARLESS ANTHONY broke the previous record at 5.0F by 1/100 of a sec. FEARLESS ANTHONY ran the 5F in 55.86 and the previous horse that broke the record on Feb 9th ABSOLUTELY TRUE with a time of 55.87.

I'm not too sure here if FEARLESS broke two track records in his last 2 races at different distances. He did at 5.0F and that is confirmed above but at 5.5F FEARLESS ANTHONY covered the distance in 101.62. According to my records the best time was produced by TRIXIE'S CHOKEM on 3/11/05 in a time of 101.51...If I made a mistake here please feel free to write back explaining what I did wrong here.

Thank you in advance,
Joe

I didn't become Sunland's placing judge until the '05-'06 season. :)
