Ahmadinejad pokes Uncle Sam in eye on Iraq visit

BAGHDAD (AFP) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad poked his finger in the eye of Uncle Sam on his visit to Iraq on Sunday, displaying his country’s regional influence in the face of 158,000 US soldiers in Iraq.

Top officials from the US-supported Iraqi government welcomed Ahmadinejad with hugs and kisses on a trip that opens a new phase between former enemies which fought a bitter war in the 1980s.

The televised lovefest was enough to give supporters of US President George W. Bush a seizure.

In 2002, Bush famously described Iraq — then under Saddam Hussein — Iran and North Korea as the axis of evil. One year later, US-led forces stormed Iraq and toppled Saddam.

Nearly five years, billions of dollars and 3,972 US dead later, American soldiers are holed up in fortified bases while the Islamic republic’s leader is welcomed with flowers in Baghdad.

One was invited the others weren't.

One is the same religion and the others aren't.

One was not aggressive and the others continue to be.

One is a neighbor, the others invaders.

Easy to see who is welcomed.

You make Iraq sound like a homogeneous place. I don't think it's quite that simple. He met with Shiites that lived in Iran during Saddam's time. I have a feeling many people in Iraq probably view the Iranians as different (ethnically as well as religious), aggressive, invaders, and unwelcome.

Mike, I don't think showing a photo of a www.bolshevik.org sign is very convincing.

How about this:

"U.S. Voter Turnout Up in 2004, Census Bureau Reports

Sixty-four percent of U.S. citizens age 18 and over voted in the 2004 presidential election, up from 60 percent in 2000, the U.S. Census Bureau reported today. Tables from a November survey also show that of 197 million citizens, 72 percent (142 million) reported they were registered to vote. Among those registered, 89 percent (126 million) said they voted. In the 2000 election, 70 percent of citizens were registered; and among them, 86 percent voted.

Other highlights from the Voting and Registration in the Election of November 2004 online tables pertaining to the voting-age citizen population:

In 2004, turnout rates for citizens were 67 percent for non-Hispanic whites, 60 percent for blacks, 44 percent for Asians and 47 percent for Hispanics (of any race). These rates were higher than the previous presidential election by 5 percentage points for non-Hispanic whites and 3 points for blacks. By contrast, the voting rates for Asian and Hispanic citizens did not change. These data pertain to those who identified themselves as being of a single race. (See Table 1. [Excel])

Minnesota had the highest citizen-voting rate at 79 percent, and North Dakota the highest citizen-registration rate at 89 percent. (See Table 2. [Excel])

Citizens age 65 and older had the highest registration rate (79 percent) while those age 18 to 24 had the lowest (58 percent). The youngest group also had the lowest voting rate (47 percent), while those age 45 and older had the highest turnout (about 70 percent). (See Table 1. [Excel])

Among citizens, turnout was higher for women (65 percent) than for men (62 percent). The turnout rate for people with a bachelor’s degree or higher (80 percent) was greater than the rate for people whose highest level of educational attainment was a high school diploma (56 percent). (See Table 1. [Excel])

Seventy-three percent of veteran citizens cast ballots, compared with 63 percent of their nonveteran counterparts. (See Table 1. [Excel])[End Quote]

Mike, if we had those kind of increases in 2004 with BUSHCO running against numb nuts, what kind of voter turnout do you think we will have with a warhawk old school candidate named John(Keating Five)McCain vs. a new fresh face who promises CHANGE? It's time to stop the useless killing, the stealing, the lying and the cheating.

Mike, you need to get behind Obama now or you may be lost forever.

Lead, follow or get out of the way.

JMAmerica doesn't support the ideals of Barack Obama. It never has, and it never will. That's why Obama can't win a general election. The fact that he has come this close to the Dem nomination (and still might win, but it's not over yet) tells you all you need to know about how out of touch the Democrats are with America. Their party has been hijacked by the extreme left, which in turn, will, yet again, hijack their chances for the White House in November.

I will give the far left credit for one thing. They don't compromise their principles in order to win general elections (unless of course they end up nominating Hillary). Too bad that only gets them points for style, and not an actual victory.

They can only win with more moderates such as Clinton (Bill). I hope they nominate B. Hussein Obama.

Funny stuff. I grew up in the RIGHT WING capital of the U.S. and have seen the "dime a dozen" Ronnie types over the years stating EVERYTHING and EVERYONE is too liberal for them. When I first went to school everyone asked me, when we would do cheers at football games did we say this:

Lean to the right
Lean to the right
Stand Up
Sit Down
Fight, Fight, Fight. There was NO left frame of reference for the yokels in that area.

Loonie tune characters with paranoia about the next enemy out there that we had to attack. Must be Tail Gunner Joe's late relatives!! He was a loonie looking for phantoms as well. Only ones he found were at the bottom of a bottle right before he died a burnt out alchy in the hospital.

Thanks in advance! The person in the picture is protesting the Marine recruiting station in Berkeley. Obama is the only one of the three candidates who voted against the Iraq invasion, and Obama has pledged to cut back on the military.

Reading what that man has written on that sign, and using all other intelligent reasoning, that man is a Barack Obama supporter. Either that, or he is not voting in this election.
