The road to the Grade 1 $1,000,000 Champion of Champions gets underway when the first automatic starting berth to that prestigious race is decided in Saturday's 400-yard $237,800 Los Alamitos Winter Championship. Ten older horses, headed by track record holder and fastest qualifier A Stoli Mate, 2006 All American Futurity winner No Secrets Here, and Grade 1 derby winners Trisk and Frankie Shoots, will come together in the running of the Winter Championship. The Winter Championship winner will earn $99,876, plus have luxury of knowing that his/her racing schedule for 2008 will feature the Champion of Champions on December 13.

Leading trainer Adan Farias has the numbers on his side going into the Winter Championship. Farias will be represented by five of the 10 horses in this race, including top contender A Stoli Mate and Winter Championship trial winners Dicey Dee and Superstar Dash. He'll also saddle Cash On Corona, who ran fifth in last year's Winter Championship, and Fly Bar Special, the 5-year-old daughter of last year's Vessels Maturity winner Five Bar Molly.
