Any ideas?

You might try Philly Park Phonebet. Here is a list of their tracks feed:

Mike,

How do you get the video you want?

Dan,

Do you have to have an account with TwinSpires?

Dave
I do Dave, just to keep the video option open. I suppose they will eventually have monthly minimums for the service, but so far it’s been fine. (About 2 months and very clear video btw)

If and when they start monthly minimums they’ll get a couple show wagers from me in the same spirit that people used to bet $100 red and black to cover their Vegas junket minimum…while hoping against green! :D

All channels are the direct track feeds. The dish is a little larger than your typically Dish/Directv.

Is there a reason you want it live so badly? I mean does it mean changing the way you bet?
I have no problem watching a race 5 minutes after it ran. I just don't update my account balance or look at the result until I watch the race. To me, it is like watching the race live.

Dave might have bet 10 other races in that 5 minute wait to watch a race! Watch him play live sometime man. He's a man on a mission :)

It absolutely changes the bet.

I need to know when the horses are near the gate so as to make the latest betting decision possible.

I think one day - maybe within the next quarter century - tracks will offer video over the web, so we can all have the opportunity to give them 20 cents out of every dollar wagered.

It's a longshot, but I bet a 40-1 shot at Fair Grounds yesterday, so I think it is possible. :)

Why not RTN?

Dave Schwartz
02-22-2008, 05:40 PM
I am actually working on that but it is a difficult solution (for me) that is about a month away.

1 satellite
4 receivers
1 multi-plexer
4 monitors
installation of satellite
new power to support multiplexer

$400 per month ($99 x 4 channels)

The Hawk

It's $99 per track? I always thought it was $99 for ALL the tracks that RTN offered. Or does your post mean something else, Dave?

Dave if you are really serious this is the best solution...... I currently have 2 accounts so I can get two live feeds along with TVG (via Direct TV) and HRTV (via Dish Network)...... total cost for the month $250 and it is well worth it as I have not missed a single race since moving to this solution.

Dave Schwartz
02-22-2008, 11:47 PM
They quoted me $99 for each channel you wish to watch at once.

As you said, it is the best deal.

Hi Dave,

That seems awful high for satelite TV. On youbet you can split your screen and watch 3 tracks and i think the fee is only $50 a month. (I DID NOT VERIFY THAT FIGURE).

I can understand it if you have four independent lines but I think you should be able to watch two or three feeds per line. That is supposed to be the main selling point of satelite tv, along with more choices.

Maybe I don't understand all that I think i know.

just curious

From their website:

RTN's programming includes 40 channels of live harness, greyhound, quarter horse, and thoroughbred racing from race tracks throughout North America.

It is the "40 channels" x 4 receivers that makes it so expensive.

I think all you have to do is register (e-mail acct), not sure, haven't watched in quite awhile.

Can I have RTN installed at my business?
Yes. Commercial users must pay the $99.99 per month fee for each active receiver. Residential customers may have multiple receivers connected to the same dish for one fee.

So I guess you are a commercial user?

I admire your determination Dave. There is no way I'm ever paying one extra cent to watch a race I've bet on.

Dave Schwartz

CJ,

I think you misunderstand.

It is not that I want to watch them race. I want to watch them enter the gate.

Dave

I understand, and I agree it is probably worth the output. It is just a shame the game is so jacked up you have to go to those extremes to get to see what you want.

Also, you will have some delay as I'm sure you realize.

Dave Schwartz
02-23-2008, 07:32 PM
CJ,

My satellite (TVG, HRTV) is between 9 and 30 seconds ahead of YouBet video. I am assuming that RTN will be as good. It will be a shame if it isn't because this is not a trivial investment.

I have no doubt it is better than the internet. I just know there is delay of at least a few seconds, and as many as 10 or so.

I used to have a friend that would call while watching various games, and he would crack up because he was always ahead of me watching cable compared to my Dish Network. It was enough that I wouldn't cut it too close while wagering, that is for sure.

BillW
02-23-2008, 07:59 PM
I would imagine that TVG/HRTV uses the RTN feed. If so, you would experience half the prop. delay.

Well, I am getting my RTN installed today! Very exciting.

It did turn out that it is $99 for up to 5 feeds, providing you are installing at a residence.

Listen to this... There is only one remote code for all receivers. That means with 4 receivers I need a universal remote with RF/IRF to control the tuners. That is almost $500 more! Geez, this stuff adds up.

Why not RTN? $249 for eq plus installation and $99per month...That's my theory..

Dave Schwartz
03-21-2008, 01:48 AM
What does this website do for me?

Btw, I got my RTN installed - well, sorta.

My intention was to run it into an extra 22" flat panel monitor I had. Unfortunately, the receiver would not output hdmi-to-digital.

I just ordered a 19" flat panel tv from Costco. I'll ahve it next week.

And for the guys that cannot understand why anyone would spend money on this... for many serious players that 30-second delay via the web can be the difference between losing and winning.

Any video on the web is from 9-30 seconds behind TVG & HRTV (via Dishnet). The farther down stream they are from the "original" feed the longer it may be.

I have heard (but not tested it yet) that TVG/HRTV is behind RTN as well.
