Had an opportunity to make the trip to Grantville, Pa. to see the new Hollywood Casino at Penn National. Must tip my hat to management, because they really built an outstanding facility that caters to both the racing and slots fan. New toteboard, new paddock, beautiful simulcasting area, outstanding box seating area, an outdoor porch overlooking the paddock (anyone remember the outdoor viewing area at Garden State Park? this reminds me of it) and ample elbow room for all. Those guys at Philly Park should be flogged for the way they thumbed their noses at racing fans and raped the grandstand ... Now, if they could only get a live program off and running, they had to cancel last two nights.

Thanks for the update, Doc. We're headed up there in two weeks to take a look, so now you've whetted the appetite. I LOVED Garden State's viewing setup, and with the backdrop of 'the Mountain', it should be really nice come summer at Penn. They have the best turf course in the state, too, and now that the purses have been enhanced a bit, it gives more options for those of us with PA breds.
I agree with you about the PHA. It's a mess for the horsemen. Shame on Greenwood.

Oh yes, forgot to mention that the backdrop of the mountains was especially beautiful. Can't wait to go back and see it in the spring/summer. They are offering more stakes this year, too, including three $75,000 events on the night of May 30. And they are scrapping the bottom claiming condition of $2,500 after the first book - going up to $5,000. They have even written a $50,000 claimer in the first book.

Hopefully the turf course can now be lit up for night races.

Doc:

Where did you see the info about Penn having 3 $75,000 stakes in May? There's no stakes schedule listed on their website and I was told they haven't put together a 2008 stakes schedule yet.

We have a nice 3yo. homebred who's a grandson of Danzig. Wouldn't that be fun to target Grandpa's stakes race in early May? :jump: Always fun to dream.
