In an effort to see how widespread the actual usage of the term REDBOARD is (a term I never heard in over 40 years at the race track except here), I surveyed a wide variety of people in the industry. Guess what? Not a single one had ever heard the term.

Colin B. who runs a bookie stand in Northern England
R.M, federal parimutuel overseer for 30 years and head of the betting analysis team.
L.C. head of the Canadian Thoroughbred Hall of Fame
K.C. director or parimutuels and 35 year veteran of same
several trainers, stewards, cameramen, vets......

Now one would think that in all of that variety, including individuals from various racing locales all over North America and Europe, someone would have heard of a term that has supposed racing acceptance.

Nope

Amazing as I have been betting horses for over forty years and each and every one of those years have heard the term REDBOARD used over and over again. The term was always used the same way to deride someone who claimed big winners on a race but only AFTER the race was over. Same person was quiet as a mouse before the race but willing to tell everyone just how he had come up with the big winner. As for me I could care less about a REDBOARD by anyone as it has no effect on my betting. Actually I find a REDBOARDER kind of funny however many people seem to get very upset with such types. I do not regard use of the word as a "myth".

Took me 3 seconds to find it using Google. Maybe those people need the internet?

It's hardly a term that was invented here. It took about a minute to find the following:

From the 6/20/54 New York Times: “On thinking things over, or ‘red-boarding’ the race, On Your Own should have been played for several reasons.”

From the 8/22/61 New York Times: Referring to the Diana Hcp, "There was a lot of “red-boarding” (i.e., post-race reasoning) as to why the horse should have been played."

From Andy Beyer in the 4/10/90 Washington Post: "Many horseplayers torment their brethren by second-guessing after the race has been run—a practice known as red-boarding because the red “Official” sign is already lit."

There's more, but you get the idea...

The term goes back to the days of bookies.
Long before the internet, too!

If you visit the DelMar fan forum you will also find a large group that have very little use for the REDBOARDER. :jump:

Here's an Article link below on "Pedigree Handicapping",
for the 2007 Breeder's Cup.The first paragraph references Red Boarding.
At least Five PA posters have refuted your assertion, so now you're calling it an 'East-Coast' Phenomenon? Just because you were ignorant of the term does not deem it a "made-up" word.

If you've ever visited the Thorograph website you will have seen the "Redboard Room" which is where you can download previous days races.
