Might be a good plan. For several years I have tracked stake races using the same process as rule1. I only look at the top 3 not top 4.

Calder dec 15th race 11 g2 race. 2nd rated horse won and paid 136.20
Hol dec 8th race 9 g3 top horse paid 63.40
Santa Anita Jan 10th race 10 g2 4th best paid 106.80

Not based on Beyer speed figures but another speed figure program.
