Stumbled upon this earlier--some may find it of interest...

such as: First Race: A sweepstakes of $15 each, with $1000 added of which $200 to second and $100 to third.

Some neat stuff in here. You see that the 4th race is the Brooklyn Handicap, still run today. It was won by Diablo. Here is his pedigree

Pretty good horse: 119 Starts, 34 Wins, 36 Places, 20 Shows

Notice too that a gentleman named Dwyer is mentioned in the text. The track was the Gravesend Track in Brooklyn. It along with the Sheepshead Bay track were casualties of the gambling ban that nearly did in racing in the US in the early 1900s. Here is a short history of NY racing

Note in para. 6 it was the Dwyers that built this track.

Oh, and forgot to mention, the minimum bet at the time was $5. It was a sport for the wealthy remember.
