I was amazed at the number of longshots at Oaklawn on 1/19/08. I used
a good speed program and didnt have any of the winners in the top 5 scores.
What gives with that? I listed the winners prices below.

1. $20.00
2. $100.80
3. $31.80
4. $16.80
5. $27.60
6. $14.00
8. $38.80
9. $51.20

Now i know why most handicappers have day jobs.

Speed program? Not sure what that means - is it one that focuses on early speed? The track was frozen there this morning and thawed out during the day.

Not counting the mdn races the winners of races 4 thru 9 had been 2-1 or less in one of their past 3 races.

Race 9. The winner was .4 two races back and pd 51.20 today. Wonder where the people that bet it down to less than even money 2 races back were today.

How about that $10,981 pick-3 payout for races 4-5-6? Compared to a what, $1,600 parlay? Zounds!

I had a track specific UDM from Jeff's program on the winner in the second.

If you ask me if I bet it I could say "yes I am rich and currently partying with Jessica Alba!". But that would be a lie.

Damn, nice lie tho. I am going with that one :)

Apologize for the redboard, but I had Deputy Tice in the 2nd. His OP race on the bottom of the page caught my eye -- Sub Futz Jr. is much better than yesterday's field, and he didn't run that badly, considering. Looks like he spent most of the rest of the year running over his head and also faced many loose on the lead speed horses. I like 5 year old geldings, too. He certainly didn't jump off the page, but I am old school enough to bet against even-money horses like Moon Kid that were claimed for $30000 and are now running for $7500 after not even making it to the finish line last time.

You know it's a tough day when the P6 pays $250 on 3 winners.:bang:

The few handicappers I converse regularly with live for days like this.

Considering the meet just opened, you are dealing with a lot of layoff horses and chaos figures to be the order of the day.

I don't know how Will's Wish looked on paper but I know he had a huge back fig at OP.

Not playing OP, but watching them. Isn't there a new track surface? Could that be a contributing factor? Speed doesn't seem its usual dominate factor, but I'm hardly an OP afficionado.
