Living here in Delaware, its been brutally cold lately, like ridiculous stupid cold.. I was curious how this affects dogs, not so much the obvious point of not leaving them outside, but rather even bringing them to the park and letting them run or a lo0ng brisk walk.

Is there a point where its just too cold to bring them out or are they ok all the time, in moderation?

Just treat them as you would yourself or you kids.

you have to watch their pads getting frozen. Especially if they find a way to get them wet.

Do I recall that you have a lab? They handle the cold pretty well. In Louisiana, labs are used as duck hunting dogs and are taught to sit on ice (when there is ice) and fetch the ducks from the cold water. If you can handle it outdoors for a short while, your dog probably can, too. Be careful below about 25 degrees, though.

Watch out for road/ice salt -- they get it on their feet and then lick it off later. Makes 'em sick...

Wow, I never really thought about the salt on the roads..

Fortunateltm even though its been freaking cold as hell, it hasn't been snowing all that much here..

Yeah, wipe of their feet - that melt stuff is bad for them. Also, if you spill that blue stuff or anti-freeze in your driveway when you top off your car, cats will drink it and it can kill them.

Well, I hate cats, so.... :-)

Actually when our lab was about 6 months old, he got into the cabinet and ate an entire package of chocolate chip cookies (about 40 of them)..

He was sure sick as hell, but lived thorugh it..
