This came from an oriental source as the graphics denote, but if you have only HEARD about this guy, you owe it to yourself to see the greatest come from behind artist of ALL TIME: SILKY SULLIVAN.

I was lucky enough to see him at GGF back in the barns on St. Patrick's Day 1974. A beautiful red horse who turned out to be, amazingly, a great quarter horse sire.

I saw him win that 6 1/2F race at SA in 1958 from so far back....Joe Hernandez never saw him coming until they hit the wire. I think that was on a school day too.

I have that recording that they gave out as a special one season. You don't even hear his name until AFTER the wire as you can hear him turn off the PA system, when he quips "Silky Sullivan might have gotten up there."

The call of the finish was from the radio replay.

WOW!!

I had heard much about SS but don't remember seeing that before.

I'm sure very few here are track fans but reminds me of Dave Waddle's in the 800M finals, aka 4F, at the 72 Olympics.

I remember it well; "he's got one Kenyan, now the second." and that floppy old hat.

Thanks for posting. Even on repeated views it doesn't seem like he can do it! Amazing.

Great video--always wanted to see the big closer. Imagine having Silky in the Superfecta with the possibility of a five figure pay out. Enough to make you choke! Thanks.

Awesome footage! It must of been radio footage because that wasn't Joe Hernandez; it was Harry Henson.

And I always thanked Silky for being in that derby. That was the first $200. win bet I ever made and would have never gotten 2/1 on Tim Tam if Silky wasn't in there.:D
