psst buddy I HAVE the inside information, the fountain of youth, lifetime health, beach front property for peanuts etc. etc.

Touts make me laugh. If they were so damned good at this game, why would they SELL the information to others?

There are always a new group of fish=suckers to loop in however.

Yes.....there are some fishermen going at it pretty good here lately. P T Barnum was sure as hell right!

If you were winning $25,000 or so a year making modest win and place bets and could earn another $25,000 to $50,000 a year selling the exact same selections to the public, you wouldn't do it?

No, I would work on increasing my wagers, so that I was making $100,000 to $200,000 a year (and not having other peoples wagers help depress my prices.)

Now if I was losing $25,000 to $50,000 a year at the track, then I would try to earn $25,000 to $50,000 back by selling the exact same selections to the public...

Some sellers are honest as well as good. :)

You can pretty much tell by a lot of the ads and the promises they make.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that many handicappers for Newspapers, the DRF, and other publications work very hard at their craft.

They have a "workers mindset", they know they cannot bet every race and are happy to share their opinions for a profit.

Perhaps we consider them workers rather than touts?

I do not begrudge anyone posting their picks and their are definitely people out there who would rather buy someone elses losing opinions than have one of their own.

One of my biggest "tip offs" on whether to talk to someone at a tournament is when they use the phrase "who do you like". Basically it tells me they WANT a free ride and nothing closes my ears quicker to them than that.

I have nothing against the idea of someone selling their picks, or even coming on here to push their picks. It's just hard when you read so many posters here who know what they are talking about and have a real solid grasp of the game---a lot of great posters here. Then, the new touts appear here talking about their huge win percentages and how you shouldn't question their picks, yet most haven't discussed their theories, their beliefs, or anything of that nature. When there are a hundred people on paceadvantage whose opinions are interesting and well-informed, the touts with no track record who demand instant respect are hard to stomach---which is why the ones who deserve it get picked on.

I've been selling systems and selections for over 25 years and I can tell you that if your selections were generating consistent losses no one would buy them so you wouldn't have any customers. As for increasing your wagers so that you would make between 100k and 200k, it's not that easy to make that kind of money betting horses, this isn't the stock market. First of all, you'd have to increase your bets by at least 400% and that would deflate the payoffs.

And we're talking Lots and Lots of money, up front.

And you wont find anyone to keep taking your plays.

Good god, if you hit for a few weeks in Any Casino, they'll ask you to leave.

Hey hey hey , you do have a point, cause there is another side...

Good on you pandy. But when you sell just 4 other people your sheets,
and assuming they religiously bet them, haven't the bets just been increased by 400 %?

And, of course there are honest system sellers (but probably fewer honest touts). I've actually bought stuff from you, pandy, and have gotten my moneys' worth.

I assume all the customers would deflate the prices more than the increase in the bets of 300% (that would quadruple the wagers). I was responding to you where said that "If you were winning $25,000 or so a year making modest win and place bets". So, I was simply countering that if you could make that much on modest bets, there should be room for an increase in wager amounts - would depend on the track of course.

Of course, some people claim that you can make 50K a meet on $2 wagers. If that really is the case, I for sure wouldn't be selling anything.
