Santa Anita might have momentarily moved ahead of TVG in incompetence!

Super Hi-Five

Could you bet it at..............

TVG?--------No

TwinSpires?----------No

Youbet?--------No

Anywhere in Vegas?--------No

2 other phone wagering accounts I have?--------No

2 different track based wagering systems my friend uses?--------No

8th race super pool = 206K

7th race super pool = 204K

6th race super pool = 202K

9th race Hi-5 pool = 54K

I wonder why racetracks think they need slots to survive.

I see that $11,303. was taken out. Kinda nice for the track as the days may pile up til its hit. Guess they learned from their manipulation of the PK6 race sequence for carryovers.

Where did that money go? Consolation payouts? Additional track vig? Frank Stronach Appreciation Society?

It went where all the other takeout goes. No consolations, the remaining $43,000 is carried over til Friday.

My OTB has the walk-up voucher-based machines. The Super High Five was offered at the machines as a one-dollar PEN. I assume this naming convention follows along the lines of exa, tri, super, and now ... PEN (for pentafecta???).

As I was cashing-out, the old Hispanic man next to me asked for Race 9 results to check his Super High Five picks. (I listened and thought ... yeah, right). The OTB could not produce race results from their machines. Not programmed yet?

The Superfecta bet was off the board (replaced by the Super High Five) and this old man got madder and madder by the minute. He thought he was betting a superfecta and may have had the first four (but not the fifth). Judging from his slurred speach, he probably already had the fifth. Anyway, he taught me a few new Mexican cuss-words. He called the ticket taker a "Hijo del Playa" and stormed off.

I witnessed more angst about losing the superfecta than grief about the new lotto-type pentafecta.

There's an old saying about state lotteries ... they're a tax on stupid people or those who're math-challenged. I'm ranking the pentafecta somewhere between a state lottery and me picking the winner of next year's pig-flying derby.

So, there is a chance.

For people that claim to be big racing fans and players, those attacking Santa Anita aren't giving too much quarter. The bet was developed from player focus group meetings SA conducts regularly. The complaint was that the .10 super has syphoned the payoffs of the play down to the point where the original serious Super players were unhappy. The bet was developed for them and the carryover concept applied.

Programming is being quickly adapted by the ADW's, etc., and should be in-line very soon according to Ric Hammerle.

Considering that multi-race and multi-horse wagering innovations and wrinkles are the single greatest source of handle growth in the game, you would think there would be some appreciation for the new play. As little as we all think of MEC as a racing concern, they have been out front developing wagering ideas. The Magna 5 is anticipated for its' arrival every winter, and this bet has potential to be a winner as well.

So that $54K was the gross pool? Takeout less than 21% - not bad. Looked further and found the major CA tracks take a flat 20.18% from all exotic pools. That's one for Lalaland ... relatively, anyway.

Where've you been? That's life in this game. What does being CA or LA have anything to do with it?

For all but the past 18 months or so, not involved with racing. Guess you haven't noticed all the questions I ask.

Not a low-maintenence state. Guess you haven't noticed that, either.

I haven't noticed squat about you. What more do you know of "Lalaland" that qualifies your statement?

But when the bet is ultimately hit, are they going to end up applying the takeout rate again to the carried over amount??

I think very few tracks had the bet available on Wednesday. Note that the pool was close to $150k for today.
