One of the most exciting races I've had the pleasure of witnessing in the last 50 years was the 1962 Travers Stakes when Jaipur and Ridan locked on each other 50 feet out of the starting gate and never let up on each other for the entire mile and a quarter leading to a head-bob finish where only the photo finish camera could separate them while breaking a track record set by Man-O-War. For those who may not have seen it, here is a link to a video of the race called by the great Freddy Capossela.
