Possible scenarios for the future of Calder racetrack--
- If Miami/Dade county commissioners desire to build a Meadowlands type of complex (without the racetrack) by Dolphin Stadium and Calder is dug up and replaced by a baseball stadium for the Florida Marlins....
and
- If the local slots referendum for Calder fails to pass again next month ....
will
Churchill Downs sell Calder to the county for a handsome sum and either abandon South Florida... or buy Gulfstream Park from debt heavy Magna?
If this happens, would it open the door for a Hialeah comeback?
Many here are pushing for redevelopment of the Orange Bowl, which got a tentative OK from county commissioners. But there is talk among some local commissioners of a new baseball stadium next door to Dolphin Stadium, and a no vote on slots would demoralize Calder's owner, Churchill Downs.
