Can anyone venture a guess as to how they are formulated?

I know that the Ragozin and Brown formulas are proprietary and they don't tell you how to make your own versions, but rather explain how to estimate an improvement and what the value of weights are per point or lengths per point. They however don't mention how to make wind adjustments or ground loss adjustments.

1) Pts per 1lb. They use .2 though I found .15 worked better for me.

2) Ground/Beaten Lengths. Worked these out myself years ago:

Dist Per Path per BL
5 0.95 0.960
5.5 0.87 0.873
6 0.80 0.800
6.5 0.73 0.738
7 0.68 0.686
7.5 0.64 0.647
8 0.60 0.607
8.33 0.57 0.576
8.5 0.56 0.565
9 0.53 0.533
9.5 0.50 0.505
10 0.48 0.481
10.5 0.45 0.457
11 0.43 0.436
11.5 0.42 0.417
12 0.40 0.405
13 0.35 0.369

3) Wind: They use proprietary formulas that I don't have. Never bothered to work those out.

Hope all this helps some out there.

Why does the distance per path per beaten length change with the sprint distance when the distance run on the turns is the same for all sprints.

are you saying that they (or you ) make wind adjustments?

i would think that the ground lose adjustment, would be made the same way as the ground gain adjustment.

The value per path is correlated to the value of a beaten length. A beaten length isn't worth the same amount at 5, 6 and 7 furlongs using any figuremaker's scale.

They make wind adjustments. I never did when I made figures.

They make an adjustment of one length per path at all distances. What varies is the value of a length as distances increase. The use the same values as I use to when I made my own figures and still do when converting other figures (Beyer, Bris, etc) to my own standardized figures. That is: 1 length = 1 point at 5 furlongs, but one length = 1/2 point at 10 furlongs. Intermediate lengths have intermediate values. To find these values, just divide 5 by the distance. Example: 1 length at 8 furlongs (1 mile) = 5/8 = .625 points.

I'm not sure what they're formula for wind adjusments is but I suspect it has something to do with determining if a change in wind velocity justifies a change in variant for a given race.
