Mountaineer has new logo....racetrack in small letters. Casino is large letters.

Mountaineer Casino (big letters) and racetrack and resort in small letters.

Poker is already here while blackjack and craps start on Dec 20,7.

Maybe MTR Gaming Group would like to buy ad space here.

Sadly, the same thing is happening here too. Racing is an also ran to the "gaming." The latter takes NO SKILL, no practice, pure luck and boring, yet it is gaining. Go figure.

i will not argue some table games are "luck". one can make money at blackjack playing 1 or 2 decks. but must be careful. also craps has the lowest % .9 when one plays the pass(come) and oddsline. roulette, playing the single "0" as to the "0" "00" does improve your odds if playing the inside numbers. Vegas also has a higher min. when playing the single "0"

The logo accurately sums up their attitude toward live racing. The last time I was there the casino lot was full and there were about 20 people at the track. Almost all the cars were from PA and OH.

Hopefully with the renovations to the grandstand the racing atmosphere will be better. The new racebook they built looks really nice. I'm going to be going down in a few weeks. We live in Pittsburgh and go down at least once every few months. They have been adding money to the purses, and now with the table games starting I'm sure we will see more money invested in the racing soon as well.

Here's Philadelphia Park's logo from a billboard on I-95 (note the word "racetrack" is absent):

I give the subsidy to racing another five years or so. By then the politicians will figure out it's best to take the purse subsidy $$ into thier own coffers.

THERE IS TALK ABOUT ADDING AN POLYTRACK OR ANOTHER TYPE OF NEW SURFACE WITH THE ADDITIONAL MONEY FROM TABLE GAMES.

I worry less about mnr gaming overtaking the racing, racing is an eminity there anyway, I worry more about the synthetic surface, it took years for me to get a handle on mountaineer and now they have hinted they want to put tapeta in some time in the near future, judging from the presque isle meet in september, the races were so different, even with all cancellations at mnr, again tonight, I would rather they keep the old surface, as a selfish handicapper, but know it would be beneficial for horses and jockeys and probably less cancellations as a result. A lot of people like to mnr because of longshots, if that is ever compromised by a change in surface, mnr would suffer and lose their "cult" following. Just an opinion, how does anyone else feel?

The more things change, the more they stay the same. I think Mountaineer will continue to keep their longshot personality no matter the surface. I also think the cult following has a lot to do with the time they run- it's a great time slot. The hardcore gamblers can use it as a "wind down" and the casuals can catch it after work and dinner.

That's why it's called mindless gambling- no thought involved !!

MTR Gaming Group (MNTG) is now down to $7 a share..it was $16 six months ago. They are selling off Binion's in Vegas soon. Doubt if the One Armed Bandit (OAB) is gonna sink any money into improving the track. (OAB) is always making grandiose plans...a new Riverwalk Shopping Center..A new Golf Course..a New Wing to the Hotel...BLAH>>BLAH>>>BLAH!! The OAB is going broke as fast as the German Zeppelin (FS).
