There is a sale on the student/home version for $129...full version.
Anyone have this? Wondering how much better/different than 2000 it is. I know Excel is totally redone - that is my main point for wanting to get it.
Also wondering if I can keep Excel 2000 installed...I heard you had to remove older versions.

Def time for an upgrade, you're 3 versions behind and it will be worth the money

You can do a custom install and keep your previous versions of all office programs except outlook. Just make sure you install it in a different folder than your previous version of office.

Oh yeah T, it's a real box of chocolates. 007 is well worth the upgrade. Handsome interface and new features galore.

You gotta love 1,048,576 rows by 16,384 columns per worksheet. I have been using it for a few months now and give it a big .

One word of caution... be prepared to spend an hour or two learning your way around in the new version. It was a bit frustrating right at first not being able to quickly do what you knew how to do in the old version, but once you get reorientated with the new layout and menu's it is great.

Best of Luck To Everyone!

Tom,

You can save 129 bucks by trying Open Office (http://www.openoffice.org/) which has a database and spreadsheet capabilities. All future upgrades are also free. Stop paying the Microshaft Tax.

Student/home version has restictions as to who may use it. I believe the fine print says you must be a student or a parent can use it if helping the student. Not sure how MS can enforce it unless when you register it they verify the student status. I have read that this version may be a one time install and cannot be upgraded or transferred.

I want the huge number of columns in Excel 2007. I don't really care about the rest of the stuff. Word will never worth spit. If they made Word worthwhile, it would be Word Perfect!

Where are you seeing this, and can you install it on more than one computer?

I personally can't stand it. This is because all the menus have been rearranged and its annoying habit of telling me how my data values may have a problem because they aren't like the ones in the next column. Also you must be sure to save in compatable format if you want to share files with anyone who has older versions.

You can dual load office versions however. I am currently running both 97 and 2007, though I generally just stay with 97 as it has all that I really need and I know how to manipulate it.

How much? $137 is a great price.

Does anyone know if it's possible just to buy Excel?

You can buy excel 2007 only. If you have an Excel version later than 2000 you can buy the upgrade version to Excel 2007. Price I saw on Amazon.com was 94.99 which I would assume is a fairly common price. Not sure of the restictions of the home/student version.

Just type "excel 2007" in your search engine if you want more info.
