First of all, I for one do appreciate WhoBet's efforts of posting his consensus picks on a daily basis. It seems to me that WhoBet is the only poster that posts his picks on a regular basis in the Selections Forum and his thread seems to be very popular amongst those viewing this site. He also does a nice job of generally telling you the basis for his consensus "picks". Also, as a side note, I noticed earlier this afternoon that the majority of the folks viewing this site were viewing the Selections Forum, which I found to be surprising and interesting.

I can completely understand however, that many forum members may have no interest in his posts, as this might not be one's cup of tea, and this is fine, but does not provide justification to belittle his contributions. In my opinion, he is providing a valued contribution to the forum and on the behalf of others that regularly or occasionally view his posts I say Thank You, WhoBet!:ThmbUp:

As for the "Million Dollar Question"... How can you make $$$ off of WhoBet's Picks? Who knows, I certainly won't claim to, but I think you have to treat it like just another piece of information to consider in your handicapping process. If one was to get really serious about this, I would think you would pick a track or two or three and closely follow his selections and results and attempt to incorporate your findings into a betting strategy that you were comfortable with and that seemed at least somewhat reasonable based upon your handicapping knowledge and your wagering preferences.

For example, evaluating his top 4 consensus selections by boxing them in an exacta and expecting a positive ROI does not seem reasonable to me. Too many chalky combinations to reasonably expect that this approach would produce a positive ROI, I would think. Evaluating the picks based on win (top selection), straight exacta, straight tri, straight super would be fairer, but considering that every race is being played and that chalk would dominate the top slots of the exotics just by definition of his consensus method, again I think an expectation of a positive ROI would be asking a bit much.

Generally, when I look at WhoBet's picks, I am looking for a horse he likes at a bit of a price that I might have otherwise overlooked. This will typically not be one of his top two picks and will most likely be his 4th pick, but perhaps his 3rd pick. The top two will likely be Captain Obvious selections. (Disclaimer - I am basing this on my own occasional and somewhat limited viewing of WhoBet's picks. If I am off base on this, I apologize.) So along this train of thought, if I was attempting to come up with a method whereby I could blindly wager off these selections, one approach I would consider would be something along the lines of putting the 3rd and 4th selections on top of a tri and placing the top four selections in the second and third slots. Based upon a cursory review of lxdoomxl's posts today, it looks like this simplistic approach would have produced a $200ish profit today based on $1 Tri wagers on some 178ish races. (Disclaimer - cut me some slack on these #'s as I just did math in my head as I went through the thread.) If one was serious about this, the approach could be tweaked/improved based upon results/learnings regarding the strengths and weakness of the approach being utilized and also could be applied to exactas, supers, doubles, P3's, etc.

The bottom line is in my opinion, WhoBet's picks are not a panacea to all of one's handicapping woe's but are just another piece of information that one may choose to incorporate in some way into their wagering. Just like any other piece of handicapping data it is up to each individual as to what degree and how they want to utilize it, if at all.

Also, one should keep in mind that WhoBet's Picks, I presume, represent a culmination of who knows how many hundreds of equivalent man hours of handicapping, number crunching and analysis by several individuals/services and their systems. To just dismiss this information as void of any value may be a bit precipitous. Intuitively it makes sense to me that it may be possible to find a way to leverage all this work that has been done for us in such a way for it to produce a profit if one works hard enough at understanding the stengths and limitations of the information provided.

At any rate... just wanted to share my thoughts :faint:, and thank WhoBet for all his efforts and contributions :ThmbUp:, and also thank for lxdoomxl for his labors in the "salt mine" today:ThmbUp: !

We're not THAT dumb. You posted all the wins,you didnt post the losses. In the past I have asked WHOBET to tell me his ROI. He says he doesn't know,which tells me he either doesnt care or doesnt want to know. So one day I scanned around a hundred fifty races for him,since he is apparently "too busy" to check out his own picks. It was a considerable loss on straight win bets and exactas using all his selections. Whobet admits its not good(Roi) and doesn't claim to be making money at the track. He seems well aware that he does not make a positive roi with his picks. Now you tell me you have to use his picks selectively as if thats the easy part. That's a joke right? We're so stupid we never heard of this. There are volumes written about narrowing contenders and when you find a patended answer believe me you wont need Whobet.You'll be handicapper of the year on the front page of the DRF.You think you're smart enough to filter the winner from 4 contenders but too dumb to come up up with 4 contenders on your own that you need Whobet.That's what you want me to believe? If you want to prove Whobets profitability,then prove it with a documented test run. 175 races picked yesterday. If you tri boxed every race with top 3 selections you would have had 16 wins. Assuming $6 box tri ticket would have costed $1050.00 with 16 wins of a total of $1112.60 . That was the only day I have figured out so far, but yes it WAS profitable. :ThmbUp:
