I knew him .. many years ago. He put out a ton of material. Nothing ever
really worked for me. Just curious. Most of his stuff was pretty much ABC
nuts and bolts.

As a professional handicapper for nearly 30 years, I give credit to Sprint Rogers (and his wife Kathy) for being one of my earliest mentors in the business, as believe it or not, I met him at a Handicapping Seminar in Kansas City, Missouri in 1977. I thought his materials (especially on determining pace) at the time were very helpful! But I sort of lost track of him, as the last time I saw Sprint was in Las Vegas several years ago, don't even know if he's still around, but can tell you he was based out of Redondo Beach, Ca.........:)

Ahh...umm...err...actually I have seen that system, as I bought it some years back and let me tell you, it is the strangest thing you have ever seen. "No handicapping" is quite correct. All you need is a morning line and a toteboard. The system correlates morning line odds, near-post-time odds, and post position, of all things. I spent some time playing it on paper, with unremarkable results. As far as systems go, probably no better or worse than most. I soon decided I'd rather handicap. Although lately I've been thinking about trying it on the dogs....

"Never Handicap Again ? " That sounds like going broke.

On a bit more serious note... http://www.phahorseracing.com

Maybe that was the system being used at Upsandowns before the great depression, or maybe it was the cause of the depression.:D

I bought that system about 10 years ago. Actually the only place it worked

for me back then was at Sam Houston. You don't even need the toteboard

all the figuring is from the morning line. In the actual system before I even

used it Sprint Rogers even states he doesn't know why or how it works but

it just works. For win betting you bet 2 horses per race and if you want

to play exactas its in the box nature. Once in a while when I am just sitting

there between races I will use this system to see how it is doing and I

would say its about break even but nothing to get too serious about. Just like

the Dot system if you hit a few big ones your all happy but for the most

part I'd rate it a 4 on a 1-10 scale.

I saw Sprint Rogers in the race book in the weekly contest held at the South Point (Las Vegas) the last Thur that Santa Anita ran.

This is essentially correct. I must have been thinking about this...

Program numbers taking money at the track prior to post time are also numbers that are special factors. This means that any number that has a morning line odds of 10-1 or less that is going off at actual odds that are cut in half or more from the morning line is a Special Factor number.

Thanks for the info. I have been looking at the morning line for a long time..
trying to make something out of it. :bang: The odds makers in So Cal used to
be the best in the business. And Brian Mulligan ( aka Sweep in the DRF ) did
a good job for a long time.

I am going to guess that the playable horses have to move up or down a certain number of points or per cent to be a possible play. It is easier to play a tote board systerm now ... than it was in the old days..

Maybe that's a plus. Recently I got his e mail .. talking about all of the winners he had in the Breeders Cup. He was talking about " 5 angles or
5 factors " that would point us to riches. Only the Shadow knows for sure.

Mr. and Mrs. Rogers seem to have no shortage of angles.

As far as the Never Again Plan you actually take in no regards to the

current odds. You could make all your plays up the night before and bet them

(according to the system) as early as you can. I did forget about the Special

Factors and they also included some sort of wagering formula where you

could dutch the 2 horses as long as the horses odds on both horses aren't

too low.
