Anyone know what the record is for largest point spread in an NFL game? I am wondering with the Pats/Dolphins matchup looming..

The Dolphins are an absolutely horrendous team, one of the worst offenses I have ever seen.. Facing possibly the best offense ever. 30 point line wouldn't be out of the question.

I can't imagine there have been too many games with a spread over 20, with a max of say 25.

Since 1980 the largest point spread was 23 in 1993 niners over bengals.

Right now the pats are 23 pt favorites over the 5-5 eagles.

My friend swears the record is 23 points. I thought I remembered Indy giving someone 20+ last year, but was not sure.

I cannot imagine the NE/Miami game is anything under 25

Yeah that game will get ugly. You think MAYBE bellicheck might want to embarrass the Jets and Mangini for ratting them out? They'll be passing the ball until the final gun sounds

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the game played out in the manner you have described.

Right now they can't get the spread high enough-I wouldn't be surprised if they don't eventually take them off the board, as the books will only tolerate getting killed so long on one team............:)

Yup that is probably a much more likely result then for the points to keep going higher and higher.

They'll eventually get all their money back. Someone is going to figure out a way to stop them.

Beyond hiring an Iraqi to fly their team plane into a mountain, I don't think they can be stopped.

Pitts is 16 vs Mia.

so, Pats are at least 14 over Pitts.

so, give Mia, 4328 at minus 30.

hey, fact of the mater, mia. aint "ALL" that bad. lost lots of games but not by all that much.

if i can find a money line, i just might take Mia and over. never parlay...

Have you watched their 'alleged' offense?

oh yes, and i agree "tis a reach'.

but , being Pro football or for that mater Sports id like to play with huge numbers like that. so many things can go wrong...

a money line with an over (for support), could be interesting.

also, i could see taking Mia with the spread. not yet tho...

You might see NE put up 100+ on the Jets. Brady's stats might 53/59 643 yds 12tds/1 int. PS Moss will catch 9 of those tds

You think teams will remember this stuff in the post-Brady/Belichek era that's sure to come? Seems like an awful lot of payback building up like water behind a dam.

The only thing that would surpise me about that line is the 1 int.

Man, does this suck for fantasy football too. Brady leads the league in fantasy points and has considerable more points than the next highest players. Unless Brady cools down, all those fantasy teams have good shots to win with just one player.

Eagles are up with the ball right now with 13 minutes to go, but we all know the Pats.

The NFL as expected keeps no official record
I am pretty sure the 1976 Steelers vs the 0-12 Tampa bay Bucks
the point spread was 24

Pittsburgh won 42-0

In a game at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, Mike Kruczek (6 of 7 for 84 yards) started at quarterback for the Steelers. Terry Bradshaw (6 of 8 for 79 yards), who had been out with an injury, came into the game and threw two touchdown passes to Lynn Swann. Terry Hanratty (1 of 4 for -1 yard with an INT) started at QB against his former teammates and completed just one pass. With the score 28-0, Steve Spurrier (4 of 10 for 58 yards) took over in the second half. Steelers running back Rocky Blier had 118 yards rushing and three TDs, as Pittsburgh posted their eighth consecutive victory 42-0. John McKay said of what remains the Bucs largest margin of defeat, "There were times I felt like leaving the stadium and hitchhiking home."

Wouldnt it be ironic if the Pats go 19-0 while Miami goes 0-16. Eagles gave the Pats all they could handle though.

Line now at -24.

Interesting that NE is now 12-0 since the sideline camera incident in game 1. How much of an edge could that have been? Not much compared to getting Randy Moss. Brady & Moss. It's like Bacon & Eggs!!

May go with Miami + pts . New England probably will have their reserves in by halftime .

Mike Greenburg on ESPN, who admits to being a Jets fan, predicts a 50-point beatdown, something on the order of 63-13. He sees no late-game letup, not when they have a chance for true humiliation. For what it's worth. :)
