Champagne Sue / Gerivello

Try a different angle this time. Once knew a girl named Susan and , well, she....We called her Sue, good enough. Alt sounds Italiano, love the food.

Champagne Sue is scratched.

Might have to change my picks cause I never said you couldn't.What I said was don't edit.

Is this something that you think isn't right?

Finally picked a winner yesterday!

There's a 101 reasons not to bet this race, including 40% of the entrants coming off > 100 days "rest"...

Would ordinarily love Delucie or even Angels' Share here with their running style, but the time off scares me as this will likely be a barn-burner where fitness becomes a factor. Shriek looks somewhat obvious, but has only raced on dirt 1 out of 9 times and performed poorly in that instance. Simply Divine looks good in this spot and might improve on the 2nd start from a layoff, but I don't like the fact that his speed figures have decline by 10 in each of his past 2 races.

Who is left? Well, the truth is that I really can't decide, but I'll go with:

1) Gerivello because it's his 2nd start after a layoff and he's back on the surface he prefers at Churchill...speed figures should improve here if the pace is right.
2) Angels' Share is a good play for the ML odds, IMO (also, as a whisky enthsuiast, I can't eliminate this guy, who is part of the Woodford Reserve stable!)

Wondering the process you go thru for your picks. Reason why I ask is that you posted something about pace in another thread and it got me thinking, that's all.

Well this is truly a race for the ol' crystal ball. With so many in here off layoff, it is virtually impossible to guess which, if any will run well. Shriek and Golden Thief have shown good speed and should run well, but well enough to beat all the quality layoffs? And both should be at very low prices.

Once again, almost any horse in here is a valid pick, so I'm going to go for one who isn't.

#11 Moccasin Gap is coming from Woodbine formerly trained by Roger Attfield and handed over to Greg Foley Sept 30. Since then he has had one poor and one bullet work. I'm banking on the fact that Foley has this $650k investment turned around. Hey if he hits the board he's gotta be 30-1 right?

So my pick is #11 Mocassin Gap. Alternate... let's see... Deputy Sammy.

Bombs away and good luck in a race which no one should bet, or touch with a barge pole.

8 Gerivello 6-1
5 Golden Thief 9-5
9 Delucie 3-1

Lots of early speed in the race and the 5 and 9 stand to benefit from it, however, since they are both coming off long lay-offs he will try to beat them with the 8, Gerivello.

I don't know what you guys think, but I find mike battaglia to be a horrible race caller and a below average handicapper... opinions?

There are just too many reasons to pass this race. Since I passed yesterday I thought I'd take a bomb shot. One thing I just realized though is that there is no reason not to bet the contest because you never lose your initial investment. GL!

Solid picks.

The more I see the more I believe "pace makes the race" but my abilities in figuring all that out are let us say...undeveloped... I picked Grand Lady because of the trainers and the fact there was trouble in her last race--I shouldn't have overlooked the class issue... :)
