I had to miss yesterday cause I had to go to the hospital for tests. Didn't get home till suppertime.


For Nov 13 at ZIA Park my first pick is Golden Capote, scores higher on my wee-gee board, (not by much), and Papago Road for my alternate.

Thank you for your efforts for this contest. This will be fun and hopefully a learning experience for all of us.

Think this race sets up for a rater(The Hoopster) or a closer(Golden Capote) as I see the speed(Devil Red) missing except for maybe 3rd. See Record Run possibly getting a piece. Was going to comment on the distance the stretch has as far as being good or bad for the finishers but DRF doesn't list that info for that track.:confused: Also not sure how others feel but I'd rather be looking at DRF pp's but these will work in this situation.

Lots of horses coming off layoffs here...one has to assume that most of them won't have the speed to compete with this bunch without a race or two under their belts...

Taking off a 1/16 mile will be enough for Papago Road to hold onto the lead this time around. Don't expect Classy Arrangement to do it again, although Golden Capote has a chance with a good route/ride.

The uncoupled entry factor is always an intriguing one. One has to decipher the trainer's ultimate intention, and we all see, more often than not, the logical play is not always the best.

In Zia Park's 10th race, trainer Jimmie Claridge enters two. Now, at first look, PAPAGO ROAD (9-2), appears to be his primary contender here. The top ranked Prime Power play, combined with shortening up to a preferred distance in his 3rd out off the layoff after coming over to N.M. from the Baffert barn makes one think that this is the intended charge. Couple these factors with the ownership of the horse under Carla Claridge's name and PAPAGO ROAD would appear to be the logical play.

Which leads us to the other entry, FUNNY SOUVENIR (10-1). Now, on paper, this horse seems to be up against it here. Back off a layoff from a dismal campaign in the claiming ranks at Riudoso, he returns to the track that he has never been off the board. He has no wins at the distance, but his numbers make him competitive in this spot. With no recorded WO's in more than two months, this one's form appears to be intentionally clouded.

Now, PAPAGO ROAD could win this race, and ultimately, the action on the board would determine how one would approach the investment strategy, but if you have PAPAGO ROAD on any horizontal wager, it might be wise to include FUNNY SOUVENIR here as well. To play FUNNY SOUVENIR straight up, I would want to see odds twice as high as PAPAGO ROAD.

I am not familiar with Jimmie Claridge's propensity with this manuver, but this is a theory that is usually met with polar opposite perspectives. This might be a case where the shirt shouldn't be turned inside out, but in this forum, I don't see the harm.

That being said, I do believe that I have probably relegated this uncoupled entry to an up the track finish with this public analysis.:rolleyes:
