Found this over at the Blood Horse web site. Looks like Gulfstream is doing something positive to fix the odds changing after the gate opens problem. Hope more tracks follow their lead

New system updates Gulfstream odds board faster
A programming change in Gulfstream Park’s pari-mutuel wagering equipment will help decrease the amount of time before the odds board is updated to reflect new bets. Under the new system, the odds will update every 35 seconds.
"The 35 second cycle is the lowest any track currently can offer," said Ed Mackie, Gulfstream director of mutuels. "Gulfstream is working with Amtote (the totalizator company providing pari-mutuel wagering equipment for Gulfstream) in an attempt to further reduce the cycle time."
