Tomorrow at Woodbine, a mare that has not lost in two years goes up against the best at 10 furlongs. The 8th, The Maple Leaf Stakes, features this mare Monashee who, not unlike old Gate Dancer, wears black ear muffs which offset her gray color. She is devastating on the front end with something left as she won earlier this year under 129 going long.

Her positional style is right for Toronto and her energy distributions are close, but then no other horse out here has challenged her so one does not know how really good she might be. Tomorrow will tell. Interesting race.

Plans are that if she does well here, she will go to California before being retired to the breeding shed.

Beautiful horse. And those wins were all stakes I think. I actually bet against her (and won) the last time she lost - a sprint. But the last bunch of races, I just watched her run and left my money in my pocket.

2nd favorite with a ML of 4:1. Eyeball says lone-F. Let's see what the tale the computer numbers tells.

I am amazed that the owners of Monashee, who are not hard up for cash, would not pay the $500 to fly Dave Wilson out to Toronto to ride Monashee. It is known that the horse is a handful to settle down, and they have teamed for the 11 stakes wins in a row.

I know Stein rode the horse 2 years ago...but it sure seems like the wrong call to me.

That said, go get 'em Monashee!!
