Hello to you great handicappers, and characters! Has anyone qualified for the event? I received a notice from Youbet that I won an entry. I am not new to horseracing, but new to playing on a regular basis, so don't know the ropes for these contests i keep entering.

I know I will have to "foot the bill" to get out there (and back) but was wondering what other expenses might be incurred. Any info would be appreciated. Any web links, etc.

Never mind...i have decided not to go. It is just a fluke to win one of these anyway. I don't think I could take the stress.

Hawthorne holds like 4-5 contests this fall where winner gets free paid entry (and flight and hotel I believe, not 100% though). Gonna try my luck at their Handicapping contest this weekend.

Do you realize it is $1,000 entry?

No, I didn't know that. The letter says "As our contest winner, you will receive: Four nights at the Orleans Hotel and Casino and Entry into the Horseplayer World Series Jan. 23-26, 2008"

I had better ask!!! Thanks for the tip.

My point is that it is a pretty nice gift and even if you just throw darts, it is well worth it.

Take your shot and enjoy your time there, you never know.

I am confused...?? You did qualify, or you got an email notifying you of an online contest...??
Cause if you actually won, you normally get a free trip out and hotel accomodations while you are there.....very little money out of your pocket!! If it was an invite to participate, whole different story!!

Hi Donnie. Amazingly I won. I finally found out they (Youbet) pay everything EXCEPT transportation....but RT from here, booked this early, was only 240.00...i lost that much yesterday...hahaha....so I am packing my bags for my first contest!! :jump: I am very excited just to be going, I plan to have a great time. My sister from Texas is going to fly out on Sat. and we are going to hang around until Tuesday nite.

Any advice on "contests" would be greatly appreciated.

Kews,

This is NOT a solicitation, but try to find someone with some handicapping acumen, and offer a chunk of any winnings as payment for some help pickin' winners.

If I can do anything else for you, feel free to PM me. :)

My advice would be for you to use the same exact strategy you did to win this contest.
