In my last twenty races played, I've hit two winners. One paid $27.20 and the other paid $28.00. A buddy of mine played his last twenty races and has hit eight winners with his average payoff of about $6.80.
We are close to the same profit with two completely different handicapping styles. We both consider ourselves on a hot streak!
I find it easier to hit one longshot over four or five low-priced horses. If I have to choose between a 3-1 and 7-2, I'll pick the wrong horse almost every time! He obviously is able to pick the right horse more often than I can, but can't bring himself to play anything over 9-1.
It just shows that there is more than one way to win at the track.
