I have never played the Australian races and was wondering what kind of racing is going on down there. Any info will be appreciated.

I really enjoy playing australian racing because of the big fields.

Their racing is really about the same as ours, just many more races on the turf and route races. If you can learn to understand their classes it is pretty easy to make some cash.

you can do okay with big fields sometimes WP or just WIN on a few

There can often be some major differences in the Australian odds, and the odds we have in North America...watching to see what the "home crowd" is betting can often provide some insight...although I am sure their winning favourites % is less than ours, due to the large fields.

I love austraillia.
It took me a while to understand the PPs but I have nailed a few.

Its rare to see chalk.
Thats why I like it. :)

Good source for info on Australian racing-click on the "primer" link on the home page for the basics- ,and free past performances[with registration]is available at:

http://www.australianracing.com

There is a separate pool[no commingling] for the Australian nightly simulcast to the US so the money wagered is not very large, but this means that you are not competing with many pros,so there is opportunity for sharp players to take advantage of.

What I'd like to know is what the Australians themselves use for past performance information. What is their DRF type publication?

Here is a site with a lot of Australian Racing information. It has links to all the metro racing clubs and various racing information sites as well.

http://www.australian-racing.net.au/ this is their home page or http://www.australian-racing.net.au/linksAustralian.html which is the same site but with all the various links provided all on one page for easier access.

it's different from www.austrailianracing.com (http://www.austrailianracing.com) which is only really set up for the current information for the races they show here.

The other one is way more in depth with the information they provide. Might be really useful for anyone that is thinking about seriously betting Australian racing.

I think Andy Beyer mentioned this one in one of his books...

not much content unless you subscribe though

lots of tracks in Oz, big fields, no drugs...

The Sportsman is probably still the leading printed formguide in Australia (closest thing to the DRF). I used to buy it a few years back but have not bought one in years. Newspapers will still print formguides on weekends and many punters would just use those

These days plenty of people would get their form online

You can get free form for Australian racing from a number of websites

I generally get my form from www.virtualformguide.com who have some free form for everywhere plus subscriptions

www.racenet.com.au has free form for Australian meetings (mainly New South Wales meetings only though but has changed since horse flu hit NSW racing). They also have subscriber products

www.racingandsports.com.au have plenty of free form for all meetings plus subscriber stuff

There are other websites too like www.rsb.net.au and AAP racing

www.thetote.com.au has a good web based form guide for free that offers several filters for viewing the form of runners

The thing with Australian racing is that you can get plenty of form for free off these websites and others but you won't get any speed or pace rating type stuff, just basic form (ie where the horse finished, beaten margin, jockey, weight, barrier)
