View Full Version : Fun with 4NJBETS!

The first Breeders Cup, the first Kentucky Derby, and an ongoing tradition.

Those outside NJ are missing out.

When you have 4NJBETS you have the added attraction of never knowing when a bet will be placed.

Wait till the last minute and even if you get all the numbers punched before they leave the gate, you can get the dreaded WEB ERROR!

I am averaging about 25% success getting the bets in. How bad is it? I am trying to bet the 10th at Mountaineer now! No luck with 5 tries at a track that is not even running yet. On a race I am pretty sure very few are trying to bet.

I have written them emails, spoke with them on the phone and in person. I think they must be getting some hush money from the Casinos to frustrate as many horseplayers as possible to send them into the poker rooms where every bet is accepted and you never get shut out!

How many more times will we hear they are "new" and not set up for this many customers?

Typical racetrack management, probably wanted to save $10,000 on buying new servers.

Their support people are probably at the Mall with their high school friends.

Website went back to normal as soon as the Classic was run. I was unable to wager from 2PM until then. Phonebet inaccessible as well. Monopolies! They say a revamped site is close at hand but I would bet that means lots of advertising (none now) rather than increased efficiency. To be fair on normal days I rarely have a problem.

I was going to be there live today, so I made all my bets at 9pm last night. The same thing happened last year with the site crashing. It's ridiculous, but as stated, they have a monopoly. The only plus side of the site is the full list of tracks, but that doesn't help if the site is down!

My website www.thoroughbredzone.com (http://www.thoroughbredzone.com/) called the looming disaster again. I did not want a replay so I went to the Meadowlands...Scroll down past the BC stuff and you will see it. I had that up t here several weeks ago. E-mail the link....There is also a phone number. I tried for weeks to get answers. I was told to bet early. The biggest day in Jersey racing history and they cant even fix the damn server...what a joke.

I got shut out a win bet on Thors Echo last year because of the system went down. What a joke.

have to disagree about the "being new" part...

Penwood runs it through their link with Penn National's Freehold Race Track

NJ had nothing to do with setting it up or running it - only have a couple of admins involved to make sure that they get their cut

I don't have any problems with them 99% of the time - big days like yesterday, are another story altogether. But I find that the odds don't change dramatically enough to not bet very early, so I learned to place them early and forget it (!)

I happened to talk with Ian the day that PTC got the BC signal and all he could talk about was putting in new computer equipment-circuits(?)-and adding additional personal for the BC day. People not getting shut out became his mission. It worked-I was playing 3 different tracks yesterday without a hiccup. :)

I always bitch about living in New York, but it could be worse. I could live in New Jersey.

I feel sorry for all of you having to deal with the ineptness of New Jersey racing. Funny thing on the njbets website:

Well I hope the High School Senior who designed the new site gets an A.

Worst betting interface possible. CHECK BOXES for horses and select amount, then wager type, then horse, oh my! I think computers have went back to 256k memory and a 5 1/4" floppy drive with this one!

Basic principles, show odds and allow people to bet QUICKLY! Oh well, that is if you are not in New Jersey!

I've been playing MNR tonite and I still haven't found a place where the current odds are updated. Have to rely on the video feed which occasionally disconnects. Absolutely awful changes, the old betting ticket was a beauty compared to this convoluted maze.

On the main window, you have to put the cursor over the track and click there.

It shows the track program and the current odds. Of course the odds do not change from the morning line!

It is a navigation nightmare to try to even look at 2 tracks now.

Amazing since they added a 2nd track to the video. of course now each track is 3 inches tall and I cannot find anyway to maximize the picture!

OH BOY! Looks like more people will be switching over to poker now! Maybe the casinos designed the new site for free?

The scary thing is the guy who was involved in the development of the NYRA internet wagering platform was promoted to Marketing Director. I realize NYRA is having a tough time attracting new talent, but really now....

With todays technology, there should never be anything that involved in an industry where time is so important.

The old interface which needed work took about 10 seconds to put in a typical Superfecta bet. The new one about 25 seconds.

Anyone new to the site probably gave up on coming back.

at least with the old interface you could se odds and pools on all horses and place bets on same screen

now, you may have to scroll through odds/horses, and a new window opens when you want to bet

seems very high school, and designed for bettor who wakes up in the morning and knows what he wants to bet, without searching for value

My prediction is that in the next few years when NJ Bets faces declines, the bettors will be blamed, but no blame will be placed upon the sophomoric/moronic site design that is not user friendly or intuitively easy to navigate

never mind that "support" is only an email away!!

so, when they come for me and ask me why I opened an account off shore/otherstate under my cousins name, I'll just point to 11/06/2007 site redesign.

Is there any better indication of site design than posting times in "Greenwich Mean Time"!

This is not an International site. It is for ONE STATE with a check box saying you are IN that state.

Perhaps this work was done by a software firm in India? SERIOUSLY!

I didn't kill the Messenger, but it was quite an "in your face" answer. There is obviously some kind of indepedent firm that has been hired to do this website.

Obviously from Phase 1, we can tell they may not even know which end of the horse eats.

Looks like we have to send them every suggestion we can think of, in the hopes they will learn how to bet,

I still can't find an updating odds line except for the video feed which kept rebuffering tonight. Am I missing something? Every odds line I see remains the morning line until the race is over, and then the final odds show up in the results section.

I guess they didn't feel an updating odds line was necessary for Phase 1. If so, that is ignorance of horse racing beyond belief. I usually play 5-8 tracks on the weekend, I hope they are into Phase 2 by then and have the current odds (and exotic probable payoffs) available. If not, I'm off to the South Philly Turf Club, let Pennsy process my money.

This one is not that bad though - better than keeping an additional screen open for the wagering platform. And I don't have to have the DRF tote board open on most days.

I just don't get why you can't send more than one bet at a time, like we used to do when the site was first launched. It's really irritating to put in a bet, hit send, then confirm the bet, then close, then make the next bet. When you're punching in a bunch of tickets it's time consuming to have to go through all those steps every single time.

The first one they had was the best one I thought. They are going backwards not foward. I mean I was looking at it the other day and I did not know what was happening? Why is it so hard? They have the old interface back.

They need a plain crisp simple format. How about the ability to watch the race, make the bet and see the odds all on the same page?

1. the video selections don't go beyond the letter R - Rosecroft being the last listed. you have to click on the camera on the main screen and wait for a track like Tampa or Woodbine to load

2. simulcast calendar tab - is showing the calendar for January 2008 - dudes that was 3 months ago

Not only could you not bet on NJ Bets- you couldn't bet at the track either. I went over to Monmouth after having no success on the website or phone, and there were a bunch of people sitting around watching races and drinking, but all the machines were down. Website wasn't lying when it said "no betting is available in NJ".

With the odds board (keeps shifting one track down when updating) - in other words, if I have Woodbine up for the odds, it will bump down to Balmoral, Churchill was moving to Delaware...had to keep two other windows open to keep the DRF odds board open

Beware - the 4njbets system couldn't handle the demand the last two Kentucky Derby days. I've got reservations at the Brandywine Turf Club, no Jersey OTB yet in SJersey suburbs(Vineland exc), although land allocated at the old Garden State site is still vacant. I don't think one will ever come although it would probably be very successful if it did.
