A friend of mine hit the early paick 3 at Tampa yesterday.

Payoffs for the legs were $55.40 $13.60 $32.60

Pick 3 payoff was $2,029 and that seemed a bit light to me.

3 horse parlay would be over $5,000 if my math is correct.

How big was the pool? This used to happen at Laurel all the time!

$16,434 in the pool. Looks like 6 winning tickets. Did he have a $12 base bet. :)

BTW, make sure your friend has a link to the PA selections page.

Did the bet originate from Lewiston Me or North Dakota ?

I think that the takeout at TAM on P3's is 25% and as CJ points out, small pools are no bargain with these types of bets. If your friend didn't have straight win money on the $55 animal then shame on him!

Are those Autotote boys printing extra tickets again? I sure would've been expecting more than that. I guess I'll go with the small pool theory - this time. Fortunately, sometimes you get a pleasant surprise the other way. Hopefully it will all even out.

in a small pool this doesnt' seem unrealistic. Doesnt' even warrent a look.
Pool size is critical playing the exotics

I had that horse with a nice across the board bet. But I got locked out on the tri ticket and it came in, paying 9G. It really took the wind out of my win ticket............I would have settled for that pick 3.......as a consolation

The small pools kill these exotic bets. A couple of weeks ago, I forget at which track, a trifecta paid $25,000 while the superpefecta in the same race paid something like $9,000. One person had the super and got the entire pool, which was the afformentioned $9,000. The moral is, don't make these type bets into small pools.

I saw one before Xmas at CT (the track that can't seem to run in or after a rain) where the tri paid over 20K (1 ticket) and the super paid on all-all ($639) but there was only $5,755 to be had in the whole super pool. Generally their pick 3&4 pools are even smaller than that.
