I was going to double them up with a little Eddie Arnold "Cattle Call", but couldn't find a good rendition on YT.

Wow. I thought I was the only one that enjoyed watching and listening to these old songs.

Country has gotten was off base IMHO. I can only hope we return to the fiddle, steel guitar, and some banjo in the near future.

Here's another one. Note that it's 8:19 long

Classic Chick!

Love Dean…Two observations…

That acoustic Nelson was playing now sells at K-Mart.
That was not lemonade in that tin cup the Duke had. You could retire on the booze bill alone that film rang up!
Thank goodness people got involved restoring and preserving movies for generations to come.

My eight year old son loves John Wayne westerns.

I liked this comment from Youtube:

Man, this is freaking me out. I am into thumping House music and retro rock - err, so why do I like this so much!!??

there is just a delicious simplicity to the song and the scene. One for the time capsules to be sure.

I fully expect to lose most of you on this one....but I really LIKE this cover of the great Dolly Parton's Jolene by The White Stripes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zskw3mCQFL4

here is a comment:

The White Stripes do it better???? What the eff are you talking about? He whines and warbles his way through it like he's drunk and just caught his sack in his zipper.

That may well be TRUE, but it's an edgy song, and his treatment fits the lyric well IMO.

Ditto to all of the above and let me add a third observation.
The cigarette. At the very end Dean takes a drag.
I'm not so sure that you'll see that in modern era movies. If you can, I sure ain't seen it for a long time.

Love Dean Martin...........what a smooth voice that guy had.

Well, I've hit a brick wall as far as youtube videos.

Can't find a good rendition of "Cigarettes and whiskey and wild, wild women" nor Tull's "John Barkeycorn Must Die".

This actually reached # 1 in the hit parade, but I don't have the record
and it's not on Youtube. A "Preacher" is saying:

It's in The Book (Parts 1 and 2)
Johnny Standley

"I have a message for you - a very sad message!
My subject for this evening will be Little Bo Peep.
It says here, "Little Bo Peep", who was a little girl,
has lost her sheep,"
"And doesn't know where to find them."
Now that's reasonable, isn't it?
It's, it's reasonable to assume, if Little Bo Peep had lost her sheep,
It's only natural that she wouldn't know where to find them.
That, that basically is reasonabl-l-le, but, uh, "leave them alone".
Now that overwhelms me, ? completely overwhelms me.
The man said she lost her sheep, turns right around and boldly states,
"She doesn't know where to find them".
And then has the stupid audacity to say, "Leave them alone"!
Now! Now, now think for a moment! Think!
If the sheep were lost, and you couldn't find them,
You'd have to leave them alone, wouldn't you?
So, "Leave them alone". "Leave them alone".
It's in the book!

"Leave them alone and they", they being the sheep, "they will come
home".
Ah yes, they'll come home.
Oh, there'll be a brighter day tomorrow, they will come home!
It's in the book.

"They will come home?a-waggin' their tails behind them
Where else could they wag them except behind them.....

That John Standley tune from '52 is gonna be tough to find. I have a vast collection and it's nowhere to be found. I would like to hear it though.

T - Wilmer & The Dukes is hep stuff. The bridge on that tune is outta sight and the ending vocal work is far out.

Yes indeedy, that is on the A.E list. What might appeal to you even more, the song has bloodlines back to an Irish ballad of yore: "The Unfortunate Rake" :jump:

DJofSD -

Django & Stefen fed off each other toppingly.

A contemporary amongst us you may or may not have heard of is Jimmy Rosenberg. With sad regret he struggles with a horse of a different ilk. I can recomend any of his recordings.

I hesitate to post youtube videos to exemplify an apt example but here goes. The virtuostic guitarist to the left is Gustav Lundgren who plays like a knife through warm butter.
