Why is it that NYRA only updates the web site with scratch information the morning of the races? Case in point: today, 10/14/07, the changes were just posted at 10:59 ET and all of the scratches are listed as "early".

If they are early scratches, why are they not posted sooner?

How would that bring any more cash for them?

If they are early scratches, why are they not posted sooner? Many tracks have gotten away from the early, early scratches (the kind you used to see listed at the bottom of the program) so that they can get their PPs out the door (complete with program numbers) earlier.

These early NYRA scratches you see posted on the website are compiled after the vet goes around in the morning checking in on the runners going that day, plus whatever trainers call in to scratch their horses due to injury, weather, track condition...whatever....the late scratches are the ones made after wagering opens on the races.

Knowing this, how can one expect these "early" scratches to be posted much earlier than they already are being posted?

I guess what I'm used to are early scratches being announced the day before. Likely what would later be called program scratches.
