Shakespeare retired with tendon injury

By DAVID GRENING ELMONT, N.Y. - The curtain has come down on Shakespeare's career.

Shakespeare, whose comeback from a serious tendon injury hit a high note in last month's Grade 1 Woodbine Mile, has been retired from racing after suffering another tear in the tendon of his left foreleg, trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said Friday. Shakespeare would have been a major contender in either the $2 million Breeders' Cup Mile or $3 million Turf later this month at Monmouth Park.

Thanks for the article. (But it was John Donne who wrote about the bell tolling. How about, "And so his knell is knoll'd." (Siward's homage to his son in Macbeth, after young Siward was slain by Macbeth near the end of the play).)

Another English major heard from, perhaps? :D
My headline would have been
"What's past is prologue." - Shakespeare

There was a reason Bill Mott raced this animal so lightly and eventually stopped on him completely. It was a great however to see him at Saratoga this year and I’m thankful nothing tragic happened in the BC or another venue.

A true world class turf horse at his peak.

His last two starts were most impressive. Coming up the rail at Woodbine from WAY out of it was a great move.

Good to hear a stud deal was made, and that this horse got out of the game sound enough.

"A horse! a horse! my kingdom for a horse!"
