I just want to wish you the best and give you support. Once I get my head back in the game I will try to add some "place locks". Hit 'em hard.

I think a good place lock should show some advantage in the pools, which is ok if your betting at the last minute.

Also it should be a race where you see no chance of more than one horse beating this horse. Or the horse you think could beat the horse has some disadvantage that you percieve.

Ideally it should be a speed quitter , these seem to pay better to place as the public thinks it wins or gets nothing.

Any other suggestions

i do not think you make a lot of money playing horses to place especially if their the favorite. just my opinion

i do not think you make a lot of money playing horses to place especially if their the favorite. just my opinionWith place bets, you're much better off trying to make money with low-odds horses than long-odds horses...

Good to hear Chick, Congrats!

Also, congrats to Orugg2k on a very nice start! Your selections don't get out of the gate quite like Chick's but as long as they arrive first at the finish line, no one's complaining! :jump:
Now onto the next topic... all this late money is really starting to bug me... ! Now realistically it shouldn't really be a big deal to me, BUT if you really pay attention to it, it can be quite disturbing! The place pool in this race was another really good example.

I took a screenshot of the horses striding out of the gate (on Youbet, approx. 30 sec. delay) and I had a window open for the pools which I captured simultaneously. At this point in time the place pool was shown as closed, of course, and it showed a place pool total $ wagered of $2,333 of which $628 was bet on the 8. This was indicating a place probable pay on the 8 of around $3.00. FINAL pool #'s are shown and place pool total is $6,122. Almost an additional $3,800 and over $2,500 of it was on the 8, knocking the probably pay down to $2.10! Now, I would really have been concerned if a chunk of money had come in on the second place finisher the 6, but only an additional $80 came in on that horse.

So maybe it is not crooked, but why does this happen? Is it a lot of people seeing the value in the pool at the last second and making wagers, or is it some kind of value-based programmed wager, or is it someone plunging at the last second? I am suspecting that there is more and more programmed betting going on but would be interested to hear what others think. Also makes me wonder if this sort of thing could be tied to the whole IRG investigation. Perhaps some programmed value betting in conjunction with a money laundering program... who knows, but sure looks funny!

Best of Luck Everyone!

It happens MIH. All the time. I stopped looking for place overlays long ago, at tracks like that. I think of it like this: 90% of the people are betting these places off track, so 9 out of 10 people see a horse at 3-5 with 22% of the place pool and hammer away. That cash goes in at 1 min to post and the overlay evaporates into an underlay.

That's my theory anyhow.

Yep, 2 fo 2 , No way I ever bet that the pen horse if I think hes gonna pay 220 to place. I have noticed at Penn that huge dollars come in late and there is a program you can try for free on here that shows underlays from the brisnet odds board. I played with it for a month and anything that was an overlay at a min before post was most assuredly underlaid when they went off. It based off the win odds compared to place odds. Which is not that relavant because of the fact that some horses are accustomed to win or not hitting the board types. I saw the best overlays on speed horses to place and show. Closers are always hammered to place and show especially. The mentality id that they will someway find third.

Keep it up. Who needs huge overlays if you keep hitting at 100%. I'm in your corner. Just remember, if you can average $3.00 place prices you only have to hit 70% to profit 5%. Might not be much, but its better than I am getting from my bank. When the 30 days are up, could you do a calculation of payoff/hit%/odds? I am interested in your findings.

Do yourself a favor and become a good bookkeeper. It will definately help you, both in seeing where you came from and where you are going. Let Mr. Research become your best friend. joe
