I didn't know where else to ask so thought I'd ask you guys. I recently bought a new big screen digital TV and it's driving me nuts. About 60% of the programs, especially news reports, the voices are not synchronized with the lip movement of the speakers. Is it just me, the TV or what? It's like watching some videos on my computer where it's always like that, or so it seems. Does all digital TV do that, just some, or what?

shouldn't do it...........you got a problem. Are you running anything as external audio? or just listening to the speakers directly built into the TV?

Just the speakers in the TV. Could it be that I use a regular antenna? I don't have cable because they can't get it to me.

Could be a variety of reasons. If you can, get satellite.

When you see the sound is not lined up with the picture your first instinct is to blame the broadcaster but they are rarely the cause. The likely suspect is actually your display. The cause is the picture is run through much more circuitry and processing than the sound so it arrives later and causes the out of sync look. If you have a digital AV receiver for your surround sound look for a lip sync delay feature and adjust it so the sound arrives later and lines up with the picture. This is normally adjusted using a "ms" millisecond scale. It could be anywhere from 16 to 100 depending on your display. Watching the news anchors on local news is a good way to eyeball this setting.

Interesting post. I have noticed the same thing with my satellite (Dish Network), but only on occaision. So I did some googling...

The problem seems to be worse with over-the-air reception of digitial signals. This article describes the problem but offers no solution...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_video_sync
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_video_sync)

In the television (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television) field, audio video sync problems are commonly caused when significant amounts of video processing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_processing) is performed on the video part of the television program. The video processing causes video delays which can range from a few microseconds to tens of seconds. If a corresponding delay is not added to the companion audio signal the presentation of the video portion of the program to the viewer will lag the presentation of the audio.

Here is an article that is just the opposite of Mr. Mack's citing...

Ever wonder why you have trouble with off-air digital TV reception? It might be the weather, or it might be your antenna. It might even have nothing to do with RF at all, but rather with the digital video, audio, and program data sent by the TV station

Here is a possible solution, but it ain't cheap...($800)

AUSTIN, TX – September 6, 2007 – VizionWare, the Texas-based signal management (http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/forum/showthread.php?p=31474#) and signal conditioning company and creator of the award-winning Hi-Wirez™ Active HDMI Cables, announced today the release of the all new VZ-S5100 5x1 HDMI Switcher & Digital (http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/forum/showthread.php?p=31474#) Audio Synchronizer.

“The VZ-S5100 represents a significant step forward over other switchers currently on the market by providing lip-sync correction with 5-in, 1-out HDMI switching while delivering the very highest quality signal”

Let's hope bigmack has the right solution. Please keep us posted.

one way top figure that out would be to play a DVD direct to the tv and if everything works fine...........all the time......... I would say the problem is the signal "thru the air"

Have you went to the people you bought it from and asked for tech support?

That was my next move. I probably should have done that first but I have an aversion to being on hold for an hour, which is what usually happens.

I read those linked articles some of you posted and if I read it correctly, somewhere it says something about some agency requiring stations to correct this problem and it was supposed to be done starting the 1st of the month, what month I don't know. Knowing me I probably read it wrong. This kind of stuff is too much for an old mans brain.
