Thanks Rich.

This will be a good test for my at&t U-verse DVR especially since, for reasons unknown and unexplained, my HD recording of the Pacific Classic became unviewable a week or so later. Grrrr.

Where did you source this info from? This was discussed in the Breeders Cup thread and there is a difference between a program being shown on the ESPN HD channel versus actually being broadcast in High-Def. According to the TV listings I access which are shown below it is not being broadcast in HD. Notice the difference between the Horse Racing and Baseball Tonight - there is no HD indicated for the horse race.

I have never Lawyer Ron so rank. Fine race.

I am sure glad to see the Curlin victory. THe AR Derby was well represented in this race for sure. :)

I hope this day comes up well in the stats for TV. Wonderful racing/

I am still amazed at unbridled belle. Lord she was checked hard at the start of the turn and still got up to win. Very impressed.

I think its hard to compete with football and baseball. I was flipping channels.

Yes, it is not an HD broadcast. It's on an HD channel but I have the actual viewing area that is the same size as the normal SD recording. This ESPN broadcast has the usual "ESPN black bars" filling out the TV screen on both the left and right side. Oh well, nice to rewatch today's contest but true HD would be really nice.

What are the chances of an actual HD broadcast from NJ this renewal?

Now I know what that truck was doing.

ESPN used different cameras than those used by the track. Different angels than what I saw during the actual running of the races from the local OTB. My viewing of the Vosburgh using the ESPN recording is shows not only a different set of cameras being used but they intercut feed from the truck paralleling the runners.

Now, if they would only stop cutting from one camera to another during the race. Give me the view from the truck with the chiclettes at the bottom.

Wow...that was a great move on the rail with English Channel.....

The Track has to have HD Camera's installed to view the races in HD. The only track I know of that has HD is Keeneland..........although they did say they would be willing to rent the camera's out for big days..........?

Who knows what we are going to get on Breeders cup day

Yes, it was pretty thrilling. English Channel was the second most impresive run of the day though not completely unexpected. (And I was very happy to see him get through on the rail to complete my straight exacta.)

Man, I agree. JV has to make brass clinking sounds when he walks. The way EC jerked his head I thought we might be looking at disaster but luckily no.

Watching the head on replay at the OTB I made a note about how crooked EC ran -- haunches out to the right in the stretch run. Some horses naturally go that way but it could be a sign of a problem where the horse would want to carry more weight on the inside hind leg (left leg).

Everything shown on a high-def channel is BROADCAST in high-def. In my case, from DTV I can get 1080i or 720p. If the program was not shot with a high-def camera then they up-convert the standard definition signal to high-def. HD programs shown in 4x3 aspect ratio instead of 16x9 (widescreen) aspect ratio are an example of HD programs that have been up-converted from standard def to HD. The races today on the HD ESPN channel had better picture quality than the same program on the SD ESPN channel (or TVG) but were not in widescreen.

It turns out there was nothing shown from Oak Tree (at least while I was watching). I woulda swore the TV guide mentioned a race from there.

From what I can recall, last year's ESPN BC coverage was shot in HD.
I'm pretty sure they bring in their own cameras and will shoot it in HD.

The races today on the HD ESPN channel had better picture quality than the same program on the SD ESPN channel (or TVG) but were not in widescreen. And thus, NOT in High-Def.

For the record, the BC WILL MOST CERTAINLY be shown in full hi-def. ESPN will bring in their own HD cameras and you will be presented with a full HD broadcast. It doesn't matter if the track has it's own HD or not.

ESPN only shows a handful of racing telecasts in HD. I thought JCGC day at Belmont would be one of those days....hell, they went through all the trouble of setting up that useless "rail cam" yet I suppose all their HD equipment was being used elsewhere.
