View Full Version : Speed Rating plus Track Variant

Two questions to help me handicap tomorrow's Oak Tree at Santa Anita card:

1. Why doesn't the DRF have SRs and TVs for horses that raced this summer at Del Mar?

2. Can anybody suggest a substitute metric in the absence of SRs and TVs?

I'm testing an angle that adds SR to TV as a first step.

Thanks in advance,

Dan H

I'd say because the surface was new and no track records had been established yet. Your best substitute would probably be the speed fig, rescaled so that one point equals one length.

Thanks for the information and the suggestion on the speed figure.

The surface is new.
No track records have been set yet.
The SR + TV does not use Track Records, any more.
What speed fig are you talking about where 1 point = 1 length?

The drf speed rating is 1 point per length.

Yeah. Agreed. On every other tack... and I use that idea every day.
But runners coming over from Del Mar have no SR and no TV.

I used these times for DMR this year.

5.5 = 104.4

6.0 = 110.4

6.5 = 117.2

7.0 = 123.4

8.0 = 138.0

8.5 = 144.2

9.0 = 152.2

10 = 204.0

Using this I was able to make a drf style sr and tv.

Thank you Speed Figure.
That may also help my pace adjustments as well.

Pardon my simple mind, but if the meet is over, haven't track records been established?

DRF doesn't compute 3 year best times and start using them until Jan. 1

I couldn't get to the windows today ... could somebody check their west coast DRF PPs (and save me $4.50) and tell me if they included Speed Ratings and Track Variants for horses who ran at Del Mar, Hollywood, and Oak Tree for their meets in the last 12 months. I'm particularly interested in track variants over the synthetic surfaces.

Thanks in advance.

OK, the 3 yr best times for DelMar are now official. :jump:

But they won't be used until the next live races are run.
