"KB Amy finished a distant fourth while 2-5 favorite Aura Lee Triumph won. Aura Lee Triumph paid $2.80 for a $2 win wager, $2.20 to place and $12.60 to show.

Had the bettor also bet $2,000 to show on an Internet site on Aura Lee Triumph, he would have gotten back $25,200. "

nothing like expert reporting

Are we sure Youbet and Amtab is not placing the off-shore bets to screw up them?

Betting with off shore bookmakers has always been illegal in this country. How did this newspaper come to the conclusion that it wasn't?

Don't most of the offshores limit their show betting amounts, especially at small tracks. There is more to this, other than a better trying to best an offshore site.

Yeah, the off-shores know this trick very well. It aint working. They just lost a thousand bucks, Maybe more. Not so clever at all.

Don't tell that to Des Moines. Between the track & reporter they have it all figured out.

Absolutely amazing these days how many people seem to have progressed no further than basic 'Arithmetic 101'.

Well, it must be working since its happened more than once. Wouldn't you think that the bettor would place the show bets via an offshore THEN make the pari-mutuel bet?

People get killed for doing this sort of thing to the wrong bookie.

I suspect it doesn't matter. If you are collecting on these horses, it will look suspicious. Best bet would be to bet these horses across the board for medium sized bets, and do the same on some other horses not in the scam as well. Still, it won't last long.

Has the bettor successfully withdrawn the funds from the offshore site?

Kinda like the BC fixers.. If they had invested a little in losing tickets, they might have gotten away with their scam.

That's what I was thinking. Seems like there ought to be safer ways to make money.

So far it's just speculation that off-shore bets were made. Is it possible that these bets weren't made by a brilliant bettor manipulating two pools but someone making dumb bets?
